The Blasters- Tiny Towns Concert Series, Alameda Ca. 10/2/21 4K UHD Live Phil Alvin

Here is a special video post on a Tuesday. Man, this thing sounds amazing for just an audience mic on a camera- I encourage everyone to at least listen to it for a bit. Props to the soundman- I was also standing right next to him so that helped. If you want good sound in a venue, stand next the the guy with the tablet.
The band played with more energy than I expected- I had heard news of Phil’s health issues so I didn’t know what to expect- it rocked! Loved the show and I am glad I went. This popup venue is so nice, I hope they do it again next year.
I made 1 small mistake- I used a lens that did not allow me to do any full zoom individual shots, so you get a full stage shot for pretty much the entire show. I was worried about using this new lens and screwing up the show, so I played it safe.

Jason White- Tiny Towns Concert Series, Alameda Ca 5/21/21 4K UHD Master Pinhead Gunpowder Green Day

I filmed my first show in 15 months this past Friday, and boy was it a debacle. Doors were at 4 for this event, so I left work as early as I could to get there and get a decent table. I get there at 4:45 and we had 2 options- a table WAYY the hell back there, or one right up front but very far to the right. We picked the one to the right and the PA obstructed my shot of the stage.
I was able to move back to an empty table right behind ours and shoot almost all of Jason’s set. This was so awesome, includes Pinhead Gunpowder and Big Cats (his first) band from Arkansas songs.
I had not touched the GH5S in 15 months and I forgot to attach the rode mic to start (so it cuts in late), then I lose focus for about 10 minutes and did not realize. I guess I should have practiced using the gear before leaving home.
Oh, and this is in 4K but it takes youtube FOREVER to process to UHD. It has been processing for a day so far. It will get to 4k eventually.

Adolescents- Faction Brewing Company, Alameda Ca. 9/29/18 Live Canon HFG40

My RAID is getting full so it is time to clean house a bit. This was intended to be a 4 camera multicam, but every other angle has something wrong with it, so we probably won’t edit this one.

The camerawork is a bit chaotic for the first few minutes. That is because my daughter needed to go to the restroom. We had 30 minutes before the set started to go, but she had to go during the first song. Also a dad fail for not reminding her…
The Faction from this day turned out great and I hope to get that one edited soon.

The Faction- Faction Brewing Company, Alameda Ca. 9/29/18 Multicam with Soundboard Audio Skate Rock

Faction Brewing Co had their 5 year anniversary party at their brewery a while back, and they went all out! They had a full day of bands playing, including The Adolescents headlining with The Faction as co-headliner. The stage, lights and sound were top notch. If I had to nit pick, I would have repositioned the camera on Steve since there is so much glare from the spotlight. Great show!
By the way, The Faction are playing their last 2 shows EVER this month… They are playing L.A. this Saturday night, and San Jose on 2/22/20. I am going to miss them- I have appreciated them being so cool to me… they are responsible for my one and only official DVD release (Cab’s 50th at Vans in Orange County).

Enemies- The Minnow, Alameda Ca 9/22/01 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape Enhanced Lookout Records Punk

Early post today.. and I just realized that I did not prep anything from Chris Eng’s collection for today. The plan for each weekend (for now) is 1 Arica video, 1 Chris video, and 1 recent 4K Video from me. Whoops! Sorry Chris. They are on the hard drive, just need to prep them.
Let’s do another Arica video. I really wish I knew Arica back in 2001- not only because she is totally cool, but also because she threw this amazing show for her birthday- The Frustrators (w/Mike Dirnt), The Enemies (with her brother Mike), and one of my all-time faves The Dickies. She sent me a poster from this show a few years back.. I think the Eddie Haskells might have played too, but no video for them.
Anyway, here is the Enemies’ set. I got pretty lucky and was able to film The Enemies’ reunion show, opening for Green Day at Gilman in 2015. Along with Mike, they had some East Bay Punk legends in the band- Dave Ed (Christ on Parade, Neurosis), Jason Willer (many bands, but probably best known for being in Charger and Jello Biafra and the GSOM). This band also seemed to plant the seeds for Alaric, a GREAT dark punk band that was around in the 2010’s– check them out.
Picture is really clean on this one, audio is a bit distorted. Angle partially obstructed.

Frustrators- The Minnow, Alameda Ca 9/22/01 xfer from 1st gen VHS tape w/ Green Day’s Mike Dirnt

It’s Friday- video time! As promised, here is 1 this weekend from Arica Pelino’s magic suitcase. Like I said last week, I wish I could have hung out with Arica and attended her birthday show. What a lineup. Enemies/Frustrators/Dickies.
For those unaware of The Frustrators, they were a band in the early 2000’s with Mike Dirnt (from Green Day), Jason Chandler (Plus Ones), Terry Linehan and Art Tedeschi. They put out an album and 2 EPs on Adeline Records.
There’s not much available in terms of live footage from this band- some interviews and a short/likely incomplete 12min video. This seems to be the only full length show out there.
