Owlfest 12, twelfth year of this homegrown festival in the California hills, this year’s theme was “Music from TV and Movies”, and most bands honored that theme. Over twenty-five acts grace the Owlfest stages over a three-day event with camping, vendors, and activities. Owlfest 11 took place at the Blue Mountain Event Center up in Wilseyville, CA, and Taper Jim McLain was there to document several of the acts’ performances.

Last month, Sean Hills came out of promoting retirement/hiatus to put on the most crowded show the Cafe has seen in a while. The show sold out, but the amount of friends who were there was crazy. I think I introduced at least 20 scene friends to my wife- literally everywhere I turned, there was someone who I had not seen in months or years. What a blast! The show was a benefit for Palestine and it was incredibly successful- I heard that more than $5k was raised. When, given the Cafe’s capacity, meant that people went above and beyond to give even more than the door price to support the cause. What a night. I had been trying to get out and see Dollar Store ever since they announced their first show in March(?). They were even better than the short phone videos I had seen of them. Glad that it sounds really good in the cafe that night, because there was not attempting a multitrack witht eh amount of people in there. I was going to add something here about donating to the local nonprofit who helped run this show, but Sean hasn’t gotten back to me. Ask him I guess.

It looks like we will be taking a different approach this week. It has been KALX/Doug/Eggplant/other for the weekday audio posts, but we have some special stuff planned for this week. First off, here is one that I recorded with the Schoeps last month. I planned to do a 4 camera multicam of the band, but one gopro did not work out and the G9ii overheated and froze up. It looks like I lost the main angle footage. So, unless I can save that file, this is all the Divided Youth you’re gonna get from the show. Btw, the band absolutely rips- they had the biggest pit I saw that night. I got hammered by the pit at about the 13:30 mark- you can hear the mics get hit and me go “bleah!” from the gut punch. I listened to it a few times and laughed.
