Another Joel Gerson tape. I have a ton of Wilco H.O.R.D.E. board tapes that Joel’s friends taped. From what I remember, they are/were a couple and they went around to a lot of the horde shows and some non-horde Wilco shows in 1995. Look at my list for 2nd gen Wilco soundboards from 1995, that’s them.
The mix is decent, but the bass guitar drops out of the mix a few minutes in. I rebalanced it the best I could, but if I made the bass sound right for the last part, the mix would be ALL BASS for the first part. So I went in the middle of the too. So, a little too bassy to start and then not quite enough bass after the first few min. No time to cut it in half and rebalance both parts. If you really love this show and want a proper 2-part reblanace job, you can always “Tell Me What to Do” on the Patreon campaign…

Rebalance in Izotope Rx8: Bass +7, Guitar +4.
Todays’ On This Date in History is later than usual because I had my first MRI ever. What an ordeal- 3 hours at that place, laying on my stomach in a tube for 40min with my wrist out in front of me. Blah.
Anyway, this one comes from Jim Utz’ collection. He met a person (name forgotten) who videotaped a bunch of Sonic Youth’s 1995 shows. am not sure if a complete version exists- even Sonic Youth’s website shows the documentation as incomplete.

Here’s yet another Uncle Tupelo soundboard from the band’s archive. This is from a short run of shows opening for Teenage Fanclub. The date was unknown for years(estimated at 2/02), but we were able to pinpoint the date since.
Great set. I love when they play “I Found That Essence Rare” by Gang of Four.

It’s time for a Patreon Voter’s Choice bonus post! The theme was “Pick a No List Digital Soundboard”. I used a random number generator to pick 5 things.. and then after I started the poll, I realized that these were ON the main list, not off list ones! Derp. So this coming week is the no list vote. Should be fun- I will add the link to Patreon in case anyone wants to see it.
After this show won the vote, I realized that a) it was a cassette master-digital(DAT then CDR) and b) it was already on youtube, but not nearly at this quality. So let’s proceed. I promise I’ll stop making mistakes someday.

There is a story to go along with this one. We had a pretty tight circle of R.E.M. traders back in the late 80s- Craig Hilmer, Carolyn Adams, Ken Dixon, and a few others like the guy who taped this- Jeff Jones. I think that’s his name, it has been a LONG time. So we were trading for a few years and he also taped with a pro walkman, so it was nice to get good sounding tapes from his area. A rumor started that he was giving/selling his tapes to bootleggers so CDs or Vinyl could be pressed. I asked him about it and he tried convincing me to join the bootleg pipeline ranks! Anyone who knows me would realize how anti-bootleg I am. I shut him down on the spot and never heard from him again. I wonder how he is doing.
This show was a little odd sounding- the bass and guitar were way back in the mix. I did what I could with EQ and Izotope.

For today’s On This Date in History, I pulled from one of my own old VHS transfers. I used to trade with someone in Ohio who would get these tapes from the filmer. The picture was always had a green hue and the audio was always tinny. The filmer shot tons of shows at Neely B’s- AOD, Dag Nasty and tons more. They also followed Government Issue through Europe and did just about every show of the tour in 1988ish. Wish I still had all those tapes. Maybe the masters will pop up someday. With the lossless setup and good post production software, we could de-green them and make them look pretty good.

Here’s a nice stage shot video for today’s On This Date. Active Ingredients were from Lexington Ky who self-released a few things in the mid 80s, which are now sought-after in collector circles.
This one is from Jason Ross’ collection- hopefully he remembers the filmer so they can get proper credit. First stage shot video I have ever seen at Bogart’s.
