Mercyful Fate- Hard Rock Live, Wheatland Ca. 10/30/22 4k UHD Full Show King Diamond

This one hurts. This was such a great show, and I put a lot of effort into bringing my good audio gear in to get a decent (DPA 4061 mics) quality audio recording to match up to this. I get home to listen to the audio and it is distorted. The battery in the preamp was low. Damnit, I have been having terrible luck with audio lately. If anyone has a line on audio, let me know. Nothing through the network of usual suspects or on DIME.
Anyway, the audio on this is fairly clear but lacks punch/low end. I did my best filming, but there were a LOT of phones/hands/ etc in the air. So, if you are wondering why I am focusing on someone other than Hank Sherman when he is playing a lead, it’s because there was a hand, beer or phone in the way. Such is life.
Nice seeing so many old and new friends. I’ll try to list everyone I saw/hung out with.
PS: I have never seen so many happy middle aged dudes singing about satan, in my life.

Kreator- Hard Rock Live, Wheatland Ca. 10/30/22 4k UHD Full Show open for Mercyful Fate

Kreator opened up the Mercyful Fate show with a ripping set. I have not followed them closely since the 80s, but it was an impressive set. They closed the show with 2 I knew- Pleasure to Kill and Flag of Hate.
Again, the audio is only OK due to a low battery in my DPA audio preamp. D’oh, live and learn.

Kiss- Toyota Amphitheatre, Wheatland Ca 9/12/21 Gene Simmons Paul Stanley DPA 4061 Mics Live

Oh man, what a night. This is going to be long. Buckle up.
I bought a pair of the cheap $20 lawn seats that ticketmaster was selling a while back, not even sure if I was going to go yet. I saw Kiss back in 1983 on the Creatures of the Night tour, and that was the only time I had ever seen them.

I decide to go and invited my friend Cory last-minute. After we got into the venue, he decided to rent a couple lawn chairs for us rather than use the blanket I had. I was bagging on this idea the entire time we were in line for the chairs- complaining that LiveNation stops letting us bring in chairs, then rents them to us for $10 a pop. What kind of bullsh*t is that? We get to the front of the line and the nice worker there hands us comp tickets for the 14th row! Like, the 14th row of the front section of the venue. We couldn’t believe it. Thanks Cory!

But it doesn’t end there. We get to the seats and realize that we both have a ticket for the same seat. I haul ass back to the chair rental place and let the lady know and she apologizes, and then heads to the ticket office to correct the issue. She comes back with EVEN BETTER seats in the 13th row, right in front of a PA main (important for nerds like me). So I go back to where Cory was sitting and tell him to DITCH THE BLANKET in the aisle. So, Toyota Amp now has a 20 year old blue and white blanket. Sorry guys. Also, the chair lady was an MVP- she could have just told me “sorry”, but she took care of it. I wish I knew her name…

The show was great- I have never been a big Kiss fan, but I knew all but 2 of the songs played just through osmosis- either hearing it on the radio, or through friends & family. It was silly fun- I have not laughed or smiled like that at a show in years!

I shot the show in 4k and will be posting that soon. It takes Youtube about a week to process 2 hours of 4k video, and I already have 2 up and processing now. So, hopefully video this weekend. In the meantime, here is my audio recording. It turned out pretty good. I did a quick EQ and brought a lot of the thumpy bass out of the mix, and pushed up the mids and highs.

More to come.

KISS- Toyota Amphitheatre, Wheatland Ca 9/12/21 4K UHD Live Lumix ZS70 Gene Simmons Paul Stanley

As promised, here is the video that I shot from Sunday. Getting upgraded to 13th row was an unexpected treat, and it meant that I could get some killer closeups of the band. This is shot extremely tight/close. Enjoy!
Also, I could synch this up with the audio that I posted with DPA mics on Monday. It would be a lot of work. Let me know if anyone really wants to see it. It would be DPA audio in 1080p… unless someone wants to synch and output in 4K for me.

Here’s the original insane story from that night:

Audio Live Concert

Deep Purple- Toyota Amphitheatre, Wheatland Ca. 9/30/18 Live Audio Master

This was my first time to the Sleep Train/Toyota/etc Amphitheatre. I am usually pretty cynical of big shows like this, but this was great! I love that they don’t charge for marking, and the sound at the venue was excellent. We had lawn seats and it sounded perfect. I didn’t even need earplugs. It really comes through in the recording- sounds pretty damned nice.
Ian Gillan sounded great as well- even though he is SEVENTY THREE years old. Damn, I hope I can be that productive at that age! Haha.
I did not know DP’s material beside the hits but it didn’t matter- very relaxing in the lawn chair on the lawn.
