X- Stern Grove Festival, San Francisco 7/25/21 4K UHD Live Panasonic GH5S Rode Mic

Here is X’s set from last Sunday, in stunning 4k! I don’t know why (it was probably me), but I had a hard time getting into the show until they hit some of the older songs right before the encore break. Despite that, or maybe because of that, I think my filming job was more stable- fewer pans and zooms.

Avengers- Stern Grove Festival San Francisco Ca 7/25/21 4K UHD Live Panasonic GH5S Rode Videomic Pro

Hey everyone, here comes a set of 4 videos in a row running through the weekend. The first one is from last Sunday. My friend Gary Shurtleff scored tickets to the Avengers/X show at Stern Grove. The festival started in 1938, and this was the first punk show in their history. Pretty cool.
Me, Gary and Jesse Davis were able to get a nice view just above the concrete amphitheater seating, on a log. When you are in the dirt and on a log, trying to assemble an $1100 lens onto a $1700 body, it makes you a little nervous.. but it all went off without a hitch. I have never filmed a band from so far away– I was so far back there, you can see a slight delay in music vs. picture.
All of the controls on the camera are manual except for a push-button autofocus. I lost focus a couple times, but I think I did an OK job considering how far away I was. Great set by the band- far more energy than the headliner I think… or maybe I am just biased.

FRACK!- Sacramento Rehearsal Studios, Sacramento Ca. 7/23/21 4K UHD Live Lumix GH5S Punk

Here is FRACK!’s set from Friday night. This was the most energetic set I have ever seen from them, and it was clear that they were having a blast. Unfortunately, this was the last band I filmed on Friday. I had been up for 24 hours at that point and was falling asleep. I really wanted to catch Solanum…

I brought my gear to run a multicamera, but the folks at Forbidden Place Records already had that covered and were doing a live stream (check it out on Forbidden Place Records’ facebook page). I decided to film single camera in 4k for any of you resolution snobs.

Sky Pig- Sacramento Rehearsal Studios, Sacramento Ca. 7/23/21 4K UHD Live Lumix GH5S Doom Metal

I feel bad about the late post because this band deserves some views. I had only seen Sky Pig once before- the end of a set at Cafe Colonial and I didn’t get it. This time, they kicked ass. Super heavy sludge if that’s your thing. Both guitars were so distorted, I could not ID whether it was the bass or Rob’s guitar at times- you can see me fumble around looking for the noisemaker at times.

Speaking of 4k, this thing has been processing for over 16 hours and it is still in 1080p. Youtube takes FOREVER to process videos to 4k. Give it a little more time and check back, it will be at 4k res sometime soon.

Middle-Aged Queers: Sacramento Rehearsal Studios, Sacramento Ca. 7/23/21 4K UHD Live Lumix GH5S

Nice job by the Sacramento punk scene to pull together this benefit for Cafe Colonial outside of SRS last night. First up were Middle-Aged Queers. They came all the way from the bay area to play the benefit, which is pretty damned cool.
