Tony Passarell’s Shiva X: Luna’s Cafe, Sacramento Ca 10/14/19

I know the archive leans heavily/completely on punk/metal/rock/etc, but there are so many more incredible artists from the city.
Tony Passarell passed away on January 13. He was a central point for freeform music in the city, bringing artists together for improvisational jams like the one here. He could play many instruments, but his main one was the saxphone. I wish I had gotten out to see him perform.
As you can see in the last paragraph of his obituary, in lieu of flowers he asked for people to support the arts. I plan to do so by seeing his son’s band(Anime Aliens) play at Musiclandria tonight.
This clip is part 5 of 5, you can see more at the youtube channel linked here.

Nebraska Mondays “Random Trios” Show w/Ross Hammond & Others- Luna’s Café, Sacramento 12/28/17

This is a live capture from the audience at the 2017 end of the year “Random Trios” show for the Nebraska Mondays series at Luna’s Cafe in Sacramento, CA. this happening is hosted by Ross Hammond.

How it works is that musicians are invited…everyone comes with gear.. their names are put into a hat (yes, an actual hat) and 3 names are drawn out at a time and those people play an impromptu improvisational set on the spot for 10-15 mins…this year there were 28 players.. 9 trios and one quartet at the end (a mini Instagon set) all for the support of one of the longest running jazz series in the Sacramento area.

These recordings are posted here for FREE DOWNLOADS.. so that EVERYONE involved can get to them and download for free… I hope you enjoy them.. thanks for a great night.

Pregnant- Luna’s Cafe, Sacramento Ca 11/6/07 master digital recording Electronic Indie

Before I post this (I hope LOB and Pregnant don’t mind), I have been keeping quiet about the state of our politics here because I am a 501c3 and I knew that there were rules around what can and can’t be said. It has gotten to the point where I needed to research this to see what I can do.

“Yes, 501(c)(3) organizations can inform people of protests, provided the activity aligns with their mission and does not endorse, oppose, or raise funds for political candidates or parties. They can educate the public on policy issues,, but must avoid promoting illegal activities or direct participation in partisan campaigns to maintain tax-exempt status.”

Since our mission is all about music archiving and education… this doesn’t align… BUT please check out websites and get involved! I personally use mobilize dot us and indivisible, but there are many resources out there. It’s time to get involved.

This one comes from Lob Instagon’s collection. This is an early recording from Pregnant, before their first release. I edited out some dead space, and tried to normalize some levels, but it is still super dynamic so turn it up!

I think he used a Zoom H4 or equivalent
