Adolescents- Rock on Broadway, San Francisco Ca 7/19/86 xfer master audio cassette with Discontent?

It’s always a bummer when a band has an off night. This Adolescents show was plagued with an endless series of sound and technical issues. First, there were sound problems. Then an amp blew or something. The odd thing is that there is a metal band that plays at about the 28:00 mark, then more Adolescents after the tape flip. Wayne said the most metal band on the bill was Discontent, so it may be them.
Wayne emailed me a more accurate flyer for the show, but I either forgot to use it or it came after I created this. Sorry.

Heathen-Rock on Broadway, San Francisco Ca 5/16/86 xfer from master cassette tape thrash metal MITFR

Mediocre Monday is back! I wanted to remind everyone that MM is for mediocre quality recordings. The actual recorded content may (or may not) kick ass.
This is another one from Wayne Vanderkuil’s killer collection of tapes. One of the things that I enjoy while listening to these tapes is the banter between him and friends (John Scharpen, Chris Dodge, Chris Wilder etc) before the show starts. I edited some out, but you may hear some banter.
I never understood why Heathen never achieved the popularity of bands like Exodus or Testament. They were in the scene at the very beginning, they were incredibly talented, and the songs were strong. Just unlucky I suppose.
Here they are, opening for the newly metalized English Dogs on their “Forward into Battle” tour. Not sure how I missed this show, that ED album was a huge favorite of mine at the time.

English Dogs- Rock on Broadway, San Francisco Ca 5/16/86 xfer from master cassette tape

Following yesterday’s post (Heathen’s opening set), here is the English Dogs headlining set. I have heard a couple of people talk about the venue losing power and a poor performance, but I don’t hear that.
The taper is not a fan of the English Dogs. I edited out the 5min of trash talking before the show starts, but there may be some chatter between songs.

Verbal Abuse- Rock on Broadway, San Francisco 5/16/86 xfer from master cassette

Late post today- very busy day around here. Here’s another VA show from Wayne Vanderkuil’s collection. I mentioned that it seemed that VA were on just about every show.. and now you know I wasn’t joking about it. I got to see them SO many times and they brought the energy every single time.
Here they are opening for English Dogs.

Verbal Abuse- Rock on Broadway, San Francisco Ca 3/21/86 xfer from master cassette

Mediocre Monday! Today is also high stress Monday, to the point where it is getting kinda silly. Oh well.
After a week off, here is another on from Wayne Vanderkuil’s treasure trove. Great stuff, albeit a bit distorted due to the volume. Tomorrow’s post will be another Wayne tape that sounds really nice!
I love that at the end of the tape, Wayne tells friends that they should bail from this show and head over to New Method to see Attitude Adjustment play. I don’t know who else played this show, but bailing to see AA is always a good call. It sounds like Scotty may have had a couple of pre-show beverages on this one. (btw, opinion expressed in these posts may not represent mine.. and may not even represent opinions of the people who said them, 35 years later…)

7 Seconds- Rock on Broadway, San Francisco Ca 2/20/86 xfer master audio cassette Hardcore Full Show

Here’s another one from Wayne Vanderkuil’s vast collection of tapes- we are just getting started with his stuff! I am about 20 tapes in of hundreds, if not a thousand. Now if work would stop sucking all my time, I could get them done…
Here is one that he did from the Rock On Broadway of 7 Seconds. I never tire of them, and was so happy to finally see them in September after a 6 year hiatus.

Attitude Adjustment- Rock on Broadway, San Francisco Ca 1/25/86 xfer from master audio cassette

Early post today. Yet another Attitude Adjustment show- so glad Wayne was able to document all of these shows before I even knew who the band was. I got clued in about mid-1986 and was a huge fan ever since, even bringing Condemned Attitude to Sacramento twice in 1987.
This recording is pretty listenable for a ROB tape- that venue had some rough acoustics.

Verbal Abuse- On Broadway, San Francisco Ca 1/10/86 xfer f/ master audio cassette Lyon Wong Memorial

Here’s another old punk audio recording for Mediocre Monday. This one is special because it was a memorial show for Lyon Wong, who was murdered just 5 days before this show. I don’t know if ToT played the show- did they play any more shows after Lyon passed?
Huge thanks to Wayne Vanderkuil for documenting all of these early punk shows. It sounds like an old punk recording, but I did EQ to make this sound as good as possible.
