7 Seconds- The Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca. 3/8/15 Partial Audio Digital Soundboard

I think this was the second to last time I got to see 7 seconds. This was a total spur of the moment decision- I hadn’t planned on going, but I got the OK to record from Kevin so I did the 3+ hour drive on a work night. I’m glad I did it in retrospect, I really miss the band.
This soundboard was recorded by Guerin Myall and this is all that exists. There was a problem and the recording stops 11 minutes in.

7 Seconds- The Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca. 3/8/15 Multicamera Live Video

When I posted 11 minutes of the soundboard audio from this show the other day, I realized that I never posted the multicam video we did. It is ok, some of the angles had issues (over exposure, halo effect) which is probably why I held it back. It was a great performance and the crowd was really into it. I never understood why Sacramento crowds did not appreciate them as much as out of town crowds.

Equipment used: Probably Canon HFG10 x2, HFM30, and Guerin’s cameras.

Ignite- Catalyst, Santa Cruz 2/10/07 xfer from master DV tape Orange County Hardcore

I drove to SF about a month ago to pick up another collection of master tapes. I met Guerin Myall at a 7 Seconds show I decided to film at the last minute- he was there as well and we shared footage for the multicam. He told me he had a lot of tapes to transfer, but we were both busy and never had a chance to meet up again. Guerin had (and has) top notch equipment, so a lot of these videos are really nice quality.
I also found another box of tapes that Eric Mcintire gave me from Dave Ed’s collection, so I will start posting some of those, too. That brings the total to 22(!) tape collections over here that I will be sharing…
Thanks to Guerin for trusting me with the collection. First one is Ignite, opening for Circle Jerks and Pennywise at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz in 2007.

Circle Jerks- Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca 2/10/07 xfer f/DV Master Tape Enhanced

These Guerin Myall tapes are such nice quality. I am pretty close to restarting the video transfers. The card arrived, I installed it and then realized that I never tested the old adapter in the new system. Doing that first as soon as I get a minute. Fighting with the new system to get the right codecs installed. Ugh.
I think this is 1 angle of at least 2 from this show. The goal is to get all of Guerin’s stuff done and then figure out what can be multicam edited… ASAP.

No Use for a Name- Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca 2003? Xfer f/master DV tape Punk Fat Wreck Chords

Today’s Video collections post comes from Guerin Myall’s collection of awesome masters.

This appears to be filmed at the same time as a Faction show that had “03” written on the tape, so I am assuming it is from 2003. I tried to find any listing from the Catalyst for both bands together and no luck. I’ll ask Guerin if he recalls the date.

This appears to be one angle of a multicam shoot. This is Guerin’s angle.

NOFX- Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca 2/28/01 xfer from DV Master- On Stage

Since I just had a quick meetup and tape exchange with Guerin, let’s do one from his collection today. Man, this one is great. NOFX fans are going to love it. On stage with pretty good audio- that pretty much never happens.

I don’t know why the thumbnail is so dark- the show is well lit, looks great.

Bl’ast- Catalyst, Santa Cruz ca 5/4/01? xfer from DV Master tape incomplete Blast SST Records

Today’s collections post comes from Guerin Myall’s collection of DV tapes. This is somewhat of a wild guess regarding the date and venue on this show, but it looks like The catalyst. The tape was labeled “B’last from Blast Nerve Agents tape”, and the only time newspapers.com shows them playing together at the Catalyst is 5/4/01. Guerin, how did I do?

Also, Al Quint asked for Bl’ast stuff so he gets it. I usually reserve that privilege to my $30/mo patreon subscribers, so consider it a freebie, Al!

You’ll be seeing small/incomplete clips from Guerin’s collection for now. he has a ton of tapes and I only got through about 30 of them before breaking the wrist. the DV machine I use weighs 30 lbs, so it’s going to need to wait until this heals. Sorry.

BL’AST!- Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca 5/4/01 xfer f/ master DV tape Partial set

Here’s one from Guerin Myall’s collection. I had a video of his by The Freeze all uploaded and ready, but I could not find any info on the show. No location, venue, date.. nothin’. I’ll research that a bit more before putting it up.
This one was a bit easier to ID. This was Bl’ast!’s headlining set with the Nerve Agents and it looks like they both played the catalyst (where this one is obviously from) in May of 2001. I am about half done with Guerin’s tapes so I will repost this one once the rest of the Bl’ast! set is found.

NOFX- Side Stage no venue/date possibly Catalyst, Santa Cruz Ca 2/28/01 xfer f/DV Master

This one is from Guerin Myall’s collection. The tape is labeled “NOFX Side Stage” and that’s all the detail there is. Since Guerin’s home base was santa cruz and he was most active in the 2000s, I tried finding any shows in that time frame. This one came up. All you internet sleuths, please let me know if this setlist lines up with the 2001 time frame. Maybe Guerin can help out a bit.

There might be multiple angles of this show. Still working throgh digitiing all the angles- time to restart now that the video capture setup is working again.

Camper van Beethoven- Cha Cha’s, Santa Cruz Ca. 2/23/85 xfer from band archive tape Lisher’s 1st

When I look for shows to post for the “On This Day” series, I tend to look for ones that are not online at all.. but sometimes I find something like this. This one is on the Live Music Archive already, but it is from an unknown lineage CDR. This one comes right off of Jonathan’s tape, played back on my old Nakamichi CR5A in the late 1990s/early 2000’s directly onto CDR with one of those Philips CDR880 decks.
This is Greg Lisher’s first show with the band. I am so glad that I kept these CDRs in good shape- I was able to extract it without any issues.
The songs are still a bit primitive sounding here, but there is a ton from the first album, and both covers that became set staples are here as well. You also get an early version of “Lincoln Shrine”, which would be reincorporated into sets toward the end of the band’s first run, in 1989/90.
