12 Bands from Benicia Punk Compilation w/Crimpshrine Fifteen Pinhead Gunpowder xfer f/ official tape

Here is one from Arica Pelino’s cassette collection. Since we are on a Green Day moratorium until the tour ends, you get a bunch of really cool and sometimes obscure stuff from her collection.
This comp tape has some well known bands along with bands I have only seen on Gilman St. flyers and never heard.
The first 3 minutes of this tape was trashed- the tape was totally serrated – I am surprised it even played through. Fwd to 3min for a more audible recording.

This was another random pull that I noticed while looking for another tape. I saw that this is already on youtube, but in lesser quality. I got this from George Norton, who taped it off the radio. Thanks George!
This is such a great performance, loved these guys. Big thanks to Pat Duncan and WFMU for bringing little known bands (at the time) to play in studio.

Crimpshrine- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 7/16/88 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette East Bay Punk

It’s Monday (and the dreaded April Fools Day) so I figured I would post something that I really enjoyed listening to while digitizing. This tape comes from Eggplant, but I think it was given to him by Radley Hirsch. It has Radley’s trademark black scratch-off typeface on the cassette label. Always going above and beyond for us punks, he was.
The mix slides around a bit at first but settles in pretty nicely so I decided against a rebalance. Forward it a few minutes and you’ll see (hear) what I mean.

Crimpshrine- The Place, Davis Ca 2/19/88 Audio only transfer from master tape East Bay Punk

Another late upload. I am waiting to hear from the light rail studios people about this webcast- it starts in 15min and I have no Skype login credentials! I hope I made the cut.
Anyway, here is the Crimpshrine show that I taped from The Place in Davis back in 1988. That Montgomery Ward boombox had some pretty decent mics- these recordings always surprise me when I pull them out.

Crimpshrine- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 10/9/87 xfer from 1st gen soundboard tape-DAT Lookout Records

Here is the other vote winner this week. This is a typical early Gilman mix- the biggest challenge was the drums. There is very little snare in the mix and when I tried to rebalance in Izotope, it would pull in a bunch of non-drum instruments and sound awful. I was able to play with the separation feature in the app to get a little more snare without making it sound odd.

Last week’s vote was kind of a fiasco- I accidentally started it a day after I announced it, and then people were emailing me and I didn’t see them until today. Thankfully, we are now polling through Patreon, so no more chaos. I promise.

I never knew that Short Dogs Grow headlined this one. I wonder if there is tape of that set.
