Chumbawamba- Opera House, Toronto Canada 10/20/97 xfer from DAT FM Clone Complete Show

This was supposed to be a collections post, but I had already digitized this one before we “discovered” the Green Day video posted earlier. So, 2 On This Date in History posts today.

This one is for my Sacramento friends- one of the leaders from this band, Danbert Nobacon, is playing the Cafe Colonial along with a STACKED lineup next month! If you only know this band from that one hit, you need to dig deeper. What a story. All that Tubthumping money helped to finance their anarchist collective (and causes) for years. Never lost sight of who they were. So great.

Redd Kross- HMV Music, Toronto Canada 2/19/94 xfer f/ 1st gen audio cassette in store full band

I have been having some trouble with the On This Day in History content this week- I had to make a last-minute change yesterday because the original post was pretty lousy, and now today I went to pull a Naked Raygun tape to digitize and it was mislabeled- the tape number on the excel sheet is wrong.. which means it is here somewhere but lost in a sea of 4,000 cassettes. So then, I tried to do a video that I shot back in 2016. I did a lot of work- long writeup and an enhance job and then realized that I already posted it back then.
So here is a tape that was in the place it was supposed to be (tape 3169) and was not online yet. Man, what an ordeal. That’s why I usually do these ahead of time. Redd Kross played HMV’s performance space back in 1994. I had rated this one really low on the ol’ tape list but it was clean and clear enough to allow for EQ to sound decent.
And yes, I know that is a picture of Sloan. That is the only photo I could find of a band performing at HMV. Coincidentally, I taped Sloan & Redd Kross at the same Melarkey’s show in 1997.

James- Opera House, Toronto Canada 3/8/92 Xfer from Pre-FM Soundboard DAT Clone Laid

It’s the Patreon voter’s choice post of the week!

I decided to have some fun these past couple weeks and look through my “don’t trade” lists for anything I taped that is no longer sensitive, or ones where the statute of “no trade” limitations expired! Haha. Some of my friends (like KN and GD) will be forever “No Trade” at their request, but I can pick out a few to share.

I don’t recall where this one came from, but it sounds fantastic. There is a shorter, muddier sounding FM broadcast of this show but this one is perfect! No annoying FM compression.

If you want to join the voting party, hit up the patreon in comments. This week will be “pick an Aftershock fest day 1 video”- that vote starts late tonight or tomorrow. Next week will probably be more no list audio.

I am clearly having too much fun with this.

7 Seconds- Siboney, Toronto Canada 11/9/89 xfer from 3rd gen? VHS tape Punk

I took yesterday off from posting since I thought everyone would be watching the SB, but the website got over 200 hits so maybe you all hate sports! Speaking of hating sports, here is a 7 seconds video.
I am confused about this DVD- I have a 3rd gen VHS tape that I traded for in the early 90s, but my DVD of this shows it as ? VHS gen-DVD. I think it is my digitized VHS tape, so I am labeling it that way. When I retire, I’ll get the time to compare.
Only 1 song of this show has been posted to YT before!

Slayer- Concert Hall, Toronto Canada 3/31/85 xfer from master audio cassette Thrash Metal Kerry King

It’s Tour Manager Doug Tuesday! This might be the last Ultimate Revenge tour tape that is in his box. It has been so much fun to listen and clean up all of these shows for him.
This one sounds pretty damned good- no distortion, you can hear the low end in the mix, it’s an enjoyable listen. Before all the Venom freaks ask, no- there was no Venom tape in the box from this show. Sorry Joseph!

Slayer- Larry’s Hideaway, Toronto Canada 10/27/84 xfer from master tape Thrash Metal

It’s not a week unless we post a Slayer show from Doug. I found this gem of a picture while I was checking online for a photo or flyer from the show- that’s Doug behind Kerry, holding the Sony Walkman WM-R2. That’s a pretty cool find- thanks to the photographer Ihor Hirak for capturing not only Slayer, but Doug and the recorder.
I am currently digitizing the rest of the sets from this canada run- including opening bands- some great stuff upcoming.

Razor- Larry’s Hideaway, Toronto Canada 10/27/84 xfer from master cassette Speed Thrash Metal

It’s Tour Manager Doug Tuesday! I EQ’d this one a while back and I thought it sounded great, and it does sound nice and full but there is no/very little snare drum in the mix. Maybe I need to give this the izotope treatment and repost.
Anyway, here is Doug’s recording of Razor in their prime. I bought the Evil Invaders LP when it was released in 1985 and I never realized that they had released 2 albums before EI… I don’t recall those getting distribution in the US. I loved that EI album, it ripped.
I finally got to see them in 2016 at California Death Fest along with Nuclear Assault. Original guitarist Dave Carlo is partially blind, it was pretty amazing to see him perform in person.
HUGE thanks to Doug for recording their opening set for Slayer. Like I said, it sounds pretty damn nice. Needs more snare.

Slayer- CKLN Interview, Toronto Canada 10/23/84 xfer from 1st/low gen audio cassette thrash metal

It’s Tour Manager Doug Tuesday! And I just realized that I don’t have much from Doug prepared to post today. I need to get back on the prep work.
Here is one that is from Doug’s collection, but I don’t think he taped it. He probably got it from the taper. This one is longer than the version that is out there on Youtube today. It includes some post-interview music from the DJ, and just wow- what a playlist. I sure wish we had something like this in Sacramento back then. I would have become a DIscharge fan much sooner if I heard this!
Interview is incoherent and littered with F-bombs. Beautiful.
