Monsula- The Lookouting, 924 Gilman Berkeley 1/6/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 and Rode Mic

Great show last night. There was no place to film- I did the first 3 bands from the floor and they are not so good. I will upload those next week. I had to get creative and I finally found a decent spot for Monsula and Corrupted Morals. Monsula’s set was MUCH higher energy than the show at 1234 go records last week.

Monsula- 1-2-3-4 Go Records, Oakland Ca. 12/27/16 Multicam 1234 Gilman Punk

I posted the 1 camera version of this back in December, right after the show. I don’t know if you have been to the 1234 Records concert room, but it is SUPER SMALL with no place to set up multiple cameras. I actually had all of my cameras in my backpack, but they had no place to go. So I stuck a gopro on top of an electrical outlet on stage. It was way too low of a shot and it cut some heads off, but it was the best I could do. We debated editing this, but there are no multicams of Monsula out there at all, so we went for it. Hope you like it! 2 cameras: Canon HFG30 with Rode VPS mic, and a gopro on stage.

Monsula- 1234 Go! Records, Oakland Ca. 12/27/16 Part 1 1-2-3-4

For those of you going to the lookouting, check this out! Man, Monsula just threw down on all of the other bands getting back together. Damn. You should go to the lookouting shows to find out. What a night. I left straight from work and went to the show- I was worried about getting shut out like I was at the ghost ship benefit last Sunday. I get in and both bands were amazing. Where the Sidewalk Ends opened, and they were so good! I will see them next time they play, for sure. Then Monsula played. I had the Nickel EP from way back and have been listening to the LPs. They were shockingly great for not playing for 23 years. Wow. I met billie joe Armstrong and we had a nice chat about my Davis video from 1989. Then I got ready to drive Anthony Lew back to sac- we get to the car and my side window has been smashed and my work laptop stolen. I was so careful to prevent it from happening, but I joined the Oakland “smash and grab” club with Joe McKinney and Jeff Maxwell. Boo. Still a great night.

Monsula- McGregors, Elmhurst Il. 7/1/92 Live East Bay Punk Green Day Pinhead Gunpowder

Here’s today’s video- it’s another one that I digitized years ago for the Turn it Around documentary. I never really paid much attention to Monsula, but I finally gave them a good listen during The Lookouting run of shows and finally appreciated their greatness. Such a great underappreciated band.

Monsula- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 1/20/89 xfer from low gen audio tape Soundboard East Bay Punk

About 13 months ago, Todd Pritchard and Savannah W came out from upstate New York to vacation in California. Their type of vacation included trips to Gilman, hanging with East Bay Punk luminaries, and heading out to Sacramento for 1 night to stay over at our place, see the sights in Sacramento, and see a show that night.
Todd had about 2 hours to dig through an enormous amount of unlisted tapes- collections from Jason Ross and many others. He pulled out about 15 tapes and for the most part, he picked some good ones- thanks Todd. It would have been years before I got to these otherwise. I’ll be uploading some of these tapes over the next month or so.
Here is the first one- a really nice quality Monsula board tape from early 1989. From the banter, it sounds like it may have been Bill’s first show with the band.
