Deathryders- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 10/21/22 4k UHD Tales of Terror set Charlie Stratford Mem

So much to say about this one. I hung out with so many old friends at the show that I only ended up video’ing the Deathryders set. There were a ton (6 or 7) of bands there and the cafe was packed. It was really nice to see everyone show up for the memorial. Pat Stratford was even there, glad to see him out for this.
Deathryders are Dustin Stratford (Charlie’s son), Jakobe Ares (playing Lyon Wong’s guitar), Brian Hanover, Charles Albright playing a set of mostly Tales of Terror songs. I did not catch the bass player’s name.

So why, you ask, did I decide to post this on Mediocre Monday? Well, 2 reasons. First, I had my laptop with me so I could record a multitrack off the soundboard but Matt was super busy so I decided to rely on the Rode mic instead for audio… and then something went wrong with the mic. I dropped it right before the set, but I have beat the hell out of that thing and it always worked fine. I think I finally killed it.
Anyway, sorry. Maybe they will do another show so I can make up for this. If anyone has decent audio for the full set, please let me know.

Once again, I need to thank Jakobe Ares Moreno for sending the multitrack audio files over so we could synch them up with this video. My audio came out distorted- I think the Rode failed.. so huge thanks!
The synch is all whacked out while they prepare to play for the first 1:50. I should have trimmed that out, sorry. Just forward it to 1:50 and they will start rocking.
Man, they sounded great.

The Upsets- Press Club, Sacramento, CA. 7/18/97 xfer from master video Rat’s Ass Tales of Terror

Here’s another surprise from Kirk Janowiak today- a set from his & Marty Sertich’s side project The Upsets!

“Back in 1996 while Martin Sertich and I were heavily involved in our band Pocket Change, a couple of friends of ours, Andy Keogh and Nate Sponsler enticed us into joining in on their new rock n roll adventure ‘The Upsets’. The first original line up of The Upsets consisted of Andy Keogh on vocals, Nate Sponsler on lead guitar, John Sylvia on Bass, Martin Sertich on Guitar and I was on Drums. Logan Murray would soon replace John on Bass. The line-up of Andy, Nate, Martin, Logan and I played one of our first shows at The Press Club supporting Electric Frankenstein. Here is the full set from that gig. It is a bit rough towards the beginning of the set (we kind of butcher our cover of “I’m Stranded” by The Saints probably because we had a tough time hearing each other.) **Note special guest vocals by Pat “Rat’s Ass” Stratford from ‘Tales Of Terror’ on the song ‘Why?’ at about the 7:50 mark**.

Though we loved our time playing with The Upsets, Martin and I could not fully commit to them because we were still heavily involved with our main band Pocket Change. Eventually Martin would be replaced by Jesse Nichols on guitar and Sean Kehoe would replace me on drums. Later on Logan would be replaced by Ronnie Marshall on bass.”

Whorelords- Melarkey’s, Sacramento Ca. 5/24/92 Tales of Terror Sex 66

So the philosophy of the sac music archive is to include ALL videos from Sacramento based shows/musicians/filmers/tapers etc… we don’t discriminate, even when the content is questionable. The videos I post may not reflect my personal views, or my musical tastes.
Now that we got that out of the way, here are the Whorelords. The whorelords were an all-star band consisting of Rat’s ass on vocals; Mike Farrell on drums, and Dave Zimini (from Apriori).

I see people I know! Lizz Fisher gives the camera the side eye at about 45 seconds in, and I think that may be Tom Hutchison at about 30 seconds. What a party!
