Camper Van Beethoven- Empire, Sacramento Ca. 5/13/04 DV Master Video w/ Soundboard Matrix Audio

Here’s a BONUS POST today. Since I have posted loud and noisy for 2 days in a row, I thought that I would share something a bit different. Also, I got to see Cracker last night for the first time since this night 17+ years ago. Last night was great and I will be posting some 4k footage while we wait for the full 5 camera edit (in 1080p) to be done.

Man, the board tape came out so good on this show. Thanks to Jim Mclain for recording the board and doing the synch and stabilization work on the video

Recorded by: Shayne Stacy (Video) and Jim McLain(Audio)

Audio recorded by Jim with AKG mics + soundboard through a Behringer mixer

Equipment used: Consumer JVC DV camera and Minidisc recorder

My original plan to do a pluraleyes synch for a different video for today’s post went south, so here is a nice backup from the collection of master videos.
It still blows my mind that Camper suffered what seemed to be a permanent breakup in 1990… then fast forward 10 years and they did the traveling apothecary with Camper and Cracker together in 2000, to this show. There are 4 members of CVB playing on some of these songs! So awesome, and so thankful it all worked out in the end.
I think Jim McLain might have also filmed this and maybe even recorded through the soundboard. It would be cool to edit them someday if so.

Equipment used: Panasonic DV Camcorder (one of the early models)

BONUS POST! So, Cracker is playing close to Sacramento- they are doing 2 shows at Hopmonk Tavern in Novato this weekend. It’s sold out, but there are a lot of tickets floating around on the Cracker Crumbs FB group. I’ll be at the show tomorrow!

Anyway, I recently digitized the master DV tape of both the Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven sets. Jim McLain Taped through the soundboard that night, so he took my video and cleaned it up, then synced the soundboard audio to it. Glorious!
