Me First- KALX Live in Studio, Berkeley Ca. 12/16/00 xfer from pre-fm master cassette

Has it really been 2 weeks since I posted any KALX stuff? Man, I need to get back on it. I thought that this was a Me First and the Gimme Gimmes tape- then I started listening to it and realized that there was a totally different bay area band called Me First. They consisted of Bob Conlon, Chris Lenart, Denise Campanaro, and Helen Williamson and had a few CD’s and 7″s released, including one on my ex-brother in law’s label, Sympathy for the Record Industry. They sound great, love to learn about cool new/old bands.
From Rick Sylvain’s collection. Performance starts at about 3:30min.

Iron Ass- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 12/15/00 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

For this week’s Robert Eggplant post, I decided upon a band called IRON ASS. Public service announcement- there are a lot of “big” bands’ stuff that are coming up, but I plan to do entire collections and as a result, we all get Iron Ass today. Stick with me and you will be rewarded. And with that band picture along with song titles such as “Please Don’t Steal My Accordian (Again)” and “Who Needs A Girlfriend When I’ve Got Sheep?”, well, you kinda know what you are gonna get.
The mix on this was impossibly bad- it was all guitar and the vocals were totally buried. I did what I could with it in Izotope to make it listenable to the 20 or so of you who will click on it.

The Bicycle Thief- McCabe’s, Santa Monica Ca 12/2/2000 xfer 1st gen VHS tape Bob Forrest Thelonious

This one is so rare and cool. Huge thanks to Ross Weyman for sending it my way. Speaking of Ross, I had not posted anything from the VHS tapes he sent me since early in the year. Still working to post something from different collections here. Got a spreadsheet to track it even.
So this show was filmed without permission. At McCabe’s. I thought that was impossible until I saw this video. That place is so small, someone had to have seen her filming. Kudos to the taper- filming in an arena is one thing, but bootlegging a video in a 200 capacity room is something else!
This is Robert Forrest, Josh Klinghoffer and the SF Brainwash Orchestra. Sammy Hagar Weekend is at the 9-10min mark. Oasis’ Champagne Supernova makes an appearance in the set as well.
