Dog Party Acoustic- Stone Vintage Music Boutique, West Sacramento Ca 11/30/19 4K UHD

Man, this was such a special show. This is the first time that Lucy & Gwen have performed like this. Great selection of covers and amazing harmonies. My wife & kids were there, and my 4 year old was totally enthralled… and he doesn’t sit still for anything!

Lamonta- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 11/27/19 4K UHD Canon HFG50

Last night was a lot of fun. I got to the show late and was bummed to miss Motorcycle, but there were so many people there. It was packed! I was not sure how the turnout would be, the night before thanksgiving.
Lamonta are a new band – it looks like they have been around about 3 months. Man, they are so good. Catchy pop punk with harmonies. If that is your kind of thing, LISTEN and look their “Exactly” EP on youtube.

M.D.C. Acoustic- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 11/22/19 4K UHD Live

I was hanging out with the kids last night, watching Scooby Doo and Speed Buggy cartoons and my wife asked me to take something to my mother-in-law. She lives less than a mile from the cafe, so I popped in to see if I could catch the M.D.C. set… but they were not headlining so I got there about halfway through their set. I got the last 15min. Oh well, it was nice to talk to Dave and Mike a bit, and I got to try out the new Canon HFG50!

Youth of Today- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 11/15/19 5cam Multicam w/Matrix Audio

I think I have mentioned before that work has been killing me. We have been working day and night. I was even at the Strung Out show at Holy Diver and got called back on a Saturday night (I am an 8-5 M-F desk job guy).
The night before Strung Out, we had another work emergency and I was stuck on the phone. I decided that screw it, I wasn’t missing the YoT show. I packed my video bag while multitasking on the call, and then drove to Berkeley while the call dragged on. I made it to the show 20 minutes before YoT played. I set up 5 cameras in a hurry and got it done. I was SO happy to see Liz doing sound, her mixes always sound great and it mixed perfectly with the Rode audience mic.

The O’Mulligans- Colonial Theater, Sacramento Ca. 11/9/19 4K UHD Rode Stereo Videomic Pro

So EVERYTHING went wrong during the O’Mulligans’ set. The power went off to David’s amp, the PA went out at least twice… a lesser band would have crumbled. They rose to the occasion- they were entertaining throughout and the last song (he hate me) was HILARIOUS. So, a must-watch if you know the band, probably not the best intro to them though. Pick another video for that 🙂

The Enlows- Colonial Theater, Sacramento Ca. 11/9/19 4K UHD Live

I was excited to see The Enlows- I have never filmed them multicam, and the theater is a good place to film. I had my 4 cameras running and everything was going great…
Then they announce from stage that the Joe Queer/Moans show was moved from the Theater(where all of the cameras were set up), over to the cafe and starting soon! I TOTALLY panic and start shutting down cameras and throwing them in my bag while the band plays, apparently breaking a rode mic in the process. I missed the last couple songs, including a Ramones cover. Sorry Enlows. I’ll get it right one of the days.

Joe Queer w/ The Moans- All Queers Pop Punk Set, Cafe Colonial, Sac 11/9/19 4K UHD

OK, this is going to be long.

TLDR version: The audio on this is horrible for the 1st 4 minutes, and fair for the next 10min. Fwd to 15:00ish if you can’t handle it.

Long version:
Man, what a crazy night. Danny flew Joe out to play a set of songs that he hasn’t played for about 20 years… which included a bunch of my favorites! About 20 minutes before they started, they moved the venue from Colonial Theater to Cafe Colonial. I had 7 cameras set up the the Theater and a recorder in the soundboard. So I had to do a mad scramble to grab 4 of the 7 to use at the cafe, and pack the other 3. I just left my tripods at the theater.
So they start the set and the volume is WAY louder at the cafe than the theater, so my camera’s levels were maxing badly for the first song. I was able to stop the camera and drop the levels, but they were still a bit distorted until the PA calmed down at about 15:00.
The set is great. Must watch.
After the show, I went to get my tripods, digital recorder etc and they LOCKED US OUT of the theater. Thankfully, AJ grabbed the valuable stuff. I was able to find Danny and we were all able to get our stuff out of there. That was the first time I ever had a bunch of cameras just tossed in the back of the car, loose.

Joe Queer & The Moans- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 11/9/19 4cam Multicam

Here is the multicamera version of the Joe Queer w/ the Moans show from a few weeks back. I know I complained about the last minute venue move when I posted the single camera video, but this still came out pretty good. I want to thank Danny for making this happen- I love the queers’ pop stuff and they play almost none of it nowadays. It was really nice to hear my favorite songs done live.

The Bitters- Colonial Theater, Sacramento Ca. 11/9/19 4K UHD Live Rode Mic

I filmed all of the bands from Colonial Theater last Saturday with 4 cameras and I recorded the show through the soundboard, but it will probably be a while before those are edited. In the meantime, here is a single camera, 4K version of the show. This was my first time seeing The Bitters, good band. Props for doing a faithful cover of Blue Swede’s “I’ve Got a Feeling” (including the OOGACHAKAS!). Probably the strangest pop song ever.
