Lamonta- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca. 11/19/23 4K UHD Master w/ Schoeps Audio Pop Punk

I try to be impartial over here, but it’s hard to not have favorites with so many awesome bands in Sac. These guys have (as the kids say) been living “rent free” in my head for a couple of weeks now. Songwriting that is up there with the top pop punk bands. Check out the “Exactly” EP on bandcamp (listen from the start) and you’re welcome.
Lamonta were the second to last band in Danny’s 5 night F Cancer run this year. I rarely head out to back-to-back shows now, but I had to make it to this one to see The Knockoffs and Lamonta. Good set with some of my favorite songs of theirs, but the vocals were a bit muffled and buried in the club mix. So, go listen to that EP on bandcamp while watching this on mute. or something.

The Knockoffs- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca. 11/19/23 4K UHD Video w/ Schoeps Audio F*ck Cancer

I am late posting today- my family got me sick. I was the last one to get it and I did everything I could to avoid it… just in time for the long weekend and the holidays. Lovely. I have a ticket to the Kevin Seconds, Kepi Ghoulie (and friends) extravaganza at the Side Door. If you want the ticket, just let me know. FREE. It starts in an hour or so.
I am glad I brought the G60 for this show- it picks up the uneven lighting at Old I a bit better than the DSLR. I’ll trade off the 60fps (this one is only 30) to be able to see Danny. They sounded GREAT- I mean their stage sound was pristine… then I found out that they were playing on the Ghost Town Rebellion’s gear. haha, that’s why they sounded so different.
Oh, and another thing- The Knockoffs do not play too often anymore- I had not seen them for over a year. They are playing a show with The Brodys and Knocked Down 2 weeks from tonight at the Starlet room! You should go. I will be there, unless someone else infects me with some virus.

Urethane- Old Ironsides Sacramento Ca 6/3/23 Schoeps Audio Master Incomplete Steve Caballero Faction

Another story for you all, this time for mediocre Monday. As you can see, this post is only 3 minutes and 48 seconds long. Why?
Well, it’s kind of a long story. First, I had planned to get there early and do multicamera video of Urethane (featuring Steve Caballero of the Faction) and Good Riddance. But, I wasn’t feeling very well (something I ate) and I was debating whether I should go at all… and then my daughter asked me to play soccer with her and she blasted me with the ball straight into my nuts, which put me down for the count for a bit longer. She is 12, 100lbs of muscle and in competitive soccer fyi.
I finally leave from home in Orangevale and go down hwy 50 to Mather Field (about 15-20min away) and realize that I don’t have my preamp for the mics. I must turn back.
I finally get to Old I and I find a spot to park right out front! I get in the club and Urethane is almost finished with their set. The place is also packed, so this is recorded from the very back of the main room. Rest assured that the Good Riddance video will sound way better than this!
Totally bummed to miss urethane. How cool is it that 2 skate rock shows sold out in sac on the same night

Good Riddance- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca 6/3/23 4K UHD Master Schoeps CCM4 Audio Santa Cruz Punk

As promised, here is Good Riddance’s set at the TINY Old Ironsides. I am still shocked that they played such a small venue. The place sold out and it was PACKED in there. I was planning to do multicam video, but I got there late (read about the comedy of errors on the urethane post). It’s a good thing I didn’t try- my gear would not have survived that crowd.
I made a last minute decision to bring the HFG60 and use a LANC controller, which is like a remote control that lets me pan/zoom and make adjustments. Good thing I did, since I had to jack up my monopod to the ceiling in order to get a decent angle of the band- Old I’s stage is low. Old I’s stage also had some issues with lighting recently, but that has mostly been corrected. As you can see, there is no fill light coming from the side of the stage that I film from.
Despite all of the issues, I think it came out pretty good. The audio sounds fantastic, thanks to the schoeps.

Se Vende- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca 4/16/23 Punk 4K UHD master video w/ Rode Videomic Pro Audio

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and father figures out there.
Se Vende was touring with City Mouse and played Old I in April. I started up my camera and was prepared to film the entire set, and they were so unbearably loud that I bailed and went outside. I will never understand why bands who are are likely playing new material to the audience crank the volume up to 11. You can tell that Old I’s small sound system just can’t complete with the stage volume. Bummer.
On the bright side, I got to talk to Miski and Jake from Lightweight outside for a while- it was nice catching up!
Enjoy the 3 and a half minutes I could tolerate.

Lightweight- Old Ironsides, Sacramento 4/16/23 4K UHD Master Video w/ Rode Videomic Pro Stereo Audio

Back to that great Old I show w/City Mouse headlining. The multicam of that set is coming soon- I screwed up some gopro settings and I need to figure out how to make them work with the other angles.
Lightweight were great as usual- one of the best punk bands in town. I love their melodic parts, even with the gruff vocals.

City Mouse- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca. 4/16/23 4K UHD Multicam with Rode Audio

After way too many hiccups in this multicam project, here is the City Mouse set from April’s show here in Sac. A few things about this: We had a problem with the soundboard recording, so this is Rode mic only. It doesn’t sound bad, but having Miski’s vocals up front is always good. Also, Old I had a dead lighting spot right in the area where Miski stood, so it makes for an odd well-lit video… except for Miski. Oh well, we did our best.
It was really great to see City Mouse play- it had been 5(?) years since they were in California last.

Bonus post- I had posted this one a few weeks back and realized that the audio was too low. I normalized the audio so here it is again, all nice and listenable.
Here is my original post about the show:

Freature- Old Ironsides, Sacramento Ca. 4/16/23 4K UHD Master with Rode Videomic Pro Stereo Audio

City Mouse FINALLY came to Sac for the first time in about 5 years last month- multicam of that one coming up. A couple of my favorite Sacramento bands opened- Freature and Lightweight. If Cory could have added Lamonta, it would have been the trifecta!
Freature are recording or have just finished recording their debut LP. Sorry for the shaky camera work at times- I was rockin’. I ran out of battery and the video cuts off on their last song, which is my favorite one (Automatic).
Sorry for the spotty lighting- Old I has changed their lighting and in the process has created a huge dead spot where the vlocaist usually stands. Let’s hope they fix it soon.

The Knockoffs- Old Ironsides, Sacrmento 2/18/23 4K UHD Multicam with Rode Audio

I bought my ticket for this Dickies Old I show the day they went on sale, before any local openers were announced. I was very happy when The Knockoffs were added to the bill about a month later. They played a short set- they had an opportunity to play longer when an opener dropped off the bill, but they chose to leave the fans wanting more.
This is the first time video’ing the band in 4k, so you can see every bead of sweat and wrinkle on the guys. Enjoy!
