Old 97s- Goldfield Trading Post, Roseville Ca. 3/29/23 4K UHD Multicam with Schoeps Audio 97’s Rhett

Alright, here’s a really cool one that has been a few months in the making. My old friends Old 97s came to Roseville in March. I arrived early and the club was totally cool with me setting up SIX cameras, as long as I had permission from the band. Since I have known the band since.. well.. 97 (1997), Murry and Co gave me the all clear. Thanks to the band for always being cool about the hobby. I want to also thank a lady named Barbara, who was kind enough to watch my balcony camera when I was on the floor (“you can trust me, I was a girl scout”). Lol, thanks. Thanks to Anonymous as well for the schoeps audio. There is also a soundboard source for this show- once that one is finished it may warrant an audio re-synch and post.

This was part of their 30th anniversary tour, which is still in progress almost 6 months later! So lots of songs from the early days, along with the best of the newer ones. Great set.

My only complaint was with the camera in front of Ken- I had it all set up perfectly, and someone took it off stage and put it on the floor. D’oh! I debated using the angle at all, but it still has some cool shots of Ken and his pedalboard so in it goes.

Old 97s- Senator Theatre, Chico Ca. 3/27/23 4K UHD Master w/ DPA 40661 audio Complete Show

Alright. First of all, I REALLY appreciate live music venues in general. The ones who were able to survive the COVID lockdowns need and deserve your support. I rarely have anything negative to say about any venue- most are pretty good. I had this long rant about the venue here that I deleted. Never mind. Support live music.

I had brought all of my cameras, but after assessing the environment at the show, I only shot with the GH5S. Sorry about the audio, these are my nice DPA mics. I did my best…. and I shot the Roseville show with 6 4K cameras and it sounds MUCH better, so stay tuned!
Thanks always to the band for 25 years of friendship and being so cool with my exploits.

Park Street Riot- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 3/24/23 Multitrack soundboard Audio mix

I am finally making some progress with these multitrack mixes. HUGE shout out to Patrick Hills for his help in getting my laptop set up to mix these.. and he even made it idiot-proof enough that I can use! We overcame one final tech obstacle over the weekend and I have been mixing/processing ever since. It’s pretty fun!
Remember that local band Park Street Riot whose video I posted on Friday? Well, here is the multitrack audio for that same show. I seem to be missing one mic (backing vocal), but I am still happy with the result. Expect a bunch of new multicam videos to be posted soon- the edit work has been done for a while, we were waiting for this audio!
I am still learning, so these should get better over time. I already realize that I have the bass up too high and guitars a little low here. Live and learn.

Park Street Riot- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 3/24/23 Multicam with Rode Audio

Funny story behind this one- this was edited and ready for upload back in October.. but I held off posting it because I had soundboard multitrack files of the set and I wanted to learn how to mix them, so I finally did that this week (Special shout out to Pat Hills for the help with my audio laptop setup and help getting started). Well, once I started the multitrack edit on this one, I realized that a lot of the channels were over driven and had a bunch of static. I might work on it a bit more to see if I can make it sound better, but I will just make that an audio post one day. The audience mic sounds good enough here.
Anyway, here are locals Park Street Riot, opening for Love Gang and Los Dug Dugs.

Los Dug Dugs- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca. 3/24/23 5cam 4K UHD Multicam with Multitrack audio psych

Here is a special one- I was amazed to see that Mexico psych legends Los Dug Dugs were playing the cafe- how often do you get to see a band who basically started rock music in a country(in 1960!) in such an intimate venue.
I was also amazed to see that they were ok with video, and OK with multitrack recording through the soundboard. It was a great show- rock with rhythm.

Love Gang- Cafe Colonial, Sacramento Ca 3/24/23 4K UHD Multicam with Multitrack Audio Denver

Here, finally, is one of the most anticipated shows of 2023 for me. I first saw Love Gang by total chance- I was at SXSW in 2018 without a badge and I had a day before my flight out, so I headed to Spider House(FREE and no badge required!) to see Lee Bains III. The venue had like 5 stages with bands playing constantly. I see Keith Morris leaving a room at the venue, so I stroll in there to see what’s up… and HOLY NWOBHM shit there was this band destroying the place. They had a keyboard player but were still super heavy.. and one of the guys was wearing a Witchfinder General shirt! I caught the last song or two and then spent the next 5 years buying their records and bugging the hell out of Chris Lemos to bring them to town.
The show was great, they played a a few off the new album, Mean Streak. The lighting was a challenge- it was only red lights and it was very dark on stage. Don’t let the thumbnail pic fool you- that was a photo flash- it’s DARK… but it sounds pretty damned great, thanks to Pat Hills’ multitrack mix. Thanks Pat!

Four Eyes- Charles Albright Birthday Party at Craig & Lory’s house Sacramento 3/11/23 4K

2 weeks ago, Charles Albright held a super fun party for his birthday- glad I was able to make it. The Four Eyes was the second and final band to play. I think at least one of these songs is unreleased- I could not find the rock and roll pizza song in their discography. What is up with Sacramento bands and pizza anyway? We have this pizza song, Pizza night by the O’Mulligans, and even a band called the pizzas.. with Charles Albright and his wife Christine. Almost too much pizza for one post. Favorite track: Rock and Roll Martian about halfway through their set. Features the back of Charles Albright’s head for the 2nd half of the show.

Xclaim- Charles Albright Birthday Party at Craig & Lory’s house Sacramento 3/11/23 SSD Covers Set 4K

I had planned to post something else today but this was so much fun I decided to call an audible. Sorry Neil- yours are going up this week!
I went to Charles’ birthday and it was a blast. I am not a social guy, but it felt like I walked in and then 3 hours had gone by in an instant. So much great conversation with cool folks. Charles should have birthday parties more often.
This was a one-time only show (I think) for the party- a band that played all SSD covers. The band is Charles Albright on Guitar, Craig Hancock on drums, Brian Hanover on bass, Tommy Faucett on vocals, and Steve Borek from B’LAST on Guitar.

Dead Kennedys- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 5/24/85 xfer from 2nd gen soundboard cassette

Happy Friday everyone! I don’t have any video to share today, but here is the best version of this well-circulated tape I have ever seen. James thinks it is 2nd gen, and it sounds like it. I did EQ this because it was super heavy on high end and light on bass.
