I waffled back and forth on today’s On This Date in History before pulling this one to digitize. Whenever I have a chance to share a Jeff Segota tape, I usually go for it. He always made such nice quality tapes.
This was the band at their most popular- they had just released the Forgery album on IRS records and were touring some pretty decent sized venues.

Here’s one from Rick Sylvain’s KALX archive. I don’t think this one is complete. Robert Scott from The Bats self-released some CDRs a while back, and there is one called “Live To Air KALX” which has 8 songs. Hopefully I will find the complete performances on one of the many reel to reels I have to digitize.
Anyway, enjoy The Black And The Blue for now. Slightly distorted. Hopefully the reel will be cleaner, if it exists.

This one is from a Umatic tape that I bought off ebay a long time ago. I actually thought I was getting something on the Rolling Stones, but no. This is a highlight reel on the 25th anniversary of the magazine and accompanying TV special from 1992. I have not seen the special, so I do not know if these soundbites are part of the special or not. Odd. Why would they make a Umatic tape for something like this?

Here is the last concert on the DAT with firehose’s last show and Luna’s KCRW performance. At this show, Dean gets a bottle thrown at him- you can hear him end the show abruptly, mid-song but they come back and finish the set. Man, Philly is a tough town- they live up to their reputation.

Collections post from Ken Doose’s collection today. One of the things I like most about Ken’s tapes is that he documented a LOT of bands that would have never been heard otherwise. This is an example. Jalopy had Skippy Webber (R.I.P.) on vocals, and I don’t know the other band members. This might be their only recorded example of the band.
Eric(I presume) did a pretty good job with the mix on this one. The guitar and bass were a bit low in the mix, but the mix was full and everything stayed consistent, so it was a perfect candidate for a rebalance.
I also appreciate Ken for taping while I was living in L.A. Only a couple people taped shows here from 92-85.

Since everyone seemed happy to see the Schlong post yesterday, here is some more Schlong. This one was filmed at a basement show. I feel for the filmer- there is no good place to film, so he/she had to film around people. Not bad considering the circumstances. People in the front sit down after about 10-15min which helps with the view. This is another one that was digitized for the Turn it Around documentary, years ago.
More goodness from Jason Ross’ collection
PS: Check about 20min into the show- that guy filming had a SMALL camera for the time. My Aiwa CV-88 was about twice as big. Imagine lugging that to a show.
