Tilt headlined night 1 of The Lookouting. They were spectacular. The band was tight and Cinder was in top form. She can really sing. Glad I finally got to see them play Gilman. Sorry for the wobbly camerawork toward the end. I was shooting from the back to stay out of the way of the documentary crew and my legs were giving out.

This is the earliest KALX live in studio that I have posted from Rick Sylvain’s collection so far. It sounds like it might be one of Rick’s first ones ever. What a way to start it off- this band is so great. This also includes station ID’s at the end (including outtakes) that are pretty clearly pulled from the reel to reel tape.

Another KALX tape for Monday. A few months ago, I mentioned that these KALX broadcasts can be risky- especially the ones from Gilman since people tend to forget the are on the radio and let a few f-bombs drop. That’s what happened here, in the first minute of the set! Haha, I hope the FCC didn’t come down on KALX too hard back then. Also, I have no idea if this photo is from this show. I just saw a pic of Tilt from Gilman and ran with it.

I was attempting to clear off my hard drive and I found some more KALX archive stuff that I had digitized and not posted, so expect a few KALX posts coming up here. My apologies for the slowness on this project- way too much stuff coming at me at once. Once I get Doug’s stuff done, I can refocus on other things… including a big ol’ box of tapes from a well-known local promoter 🙂 Anyway, this was one of those KALX things where they would broadcast the raw soundboard feed live, over the air… which was risky. The board mix could be bad, or someone could let a non-FCC approved word slip. This one had almost no guitar in the mix. I popped it into Izotope and brought up guitar, drums and vocals. I might have overdone the drums a bit, but at least you can hear the snare. Mix gets better as the show goes on.

The quality on this one isn’t great- it was generated a bit and extremely dark- but there are ZERO early complete shows of Tilt on YT. Yet another one digitized for the Turn it Around movie. From the collection of Jason Ross

It’s Wednesday, so let’s post a video from Arica Pelino’s collection of masters while she travels the world. I know I have said this before, but I will never understand why Tilt didn’t get huge. The songs are great, Cinder’s vocals are amazing, and the band was tight. No Doubt/Gwen Stefani came up at about the same time as them and became mega-stars. I like Tile better. Hm. Anyway, Arica did a nice job filming. Berkeley Square had this elevated area that was behind the “dance floor” so it could be a challenge keeping it steady without a tripod. Not bad. Sounds pretty good as well.

Here is one (from Anonymous 2’s collection) that I am surprised is not online yet. There are copies for sale on discogs, so it can’t be that rare. That being said, the $200 discogs price for a demo tape is too rich for me. I’ve said it before, but what a great band. They had the songs and the talent from the beginning as you can hear. They should be a top-tier band, even today. They should be making the big bucks on a punk in the park, riot fest, etc or whatever. Don’t know what happened.
