For our 2nd video post of the weekend, let’s keep the videos from Todd Nakamine’s collection going- here is another stage-shot Fender’s show filmed by Patrick Vergara. Sounds pretty good for a stage shot thing- the monitors must have been good that night.

It’s Friday! Here’s another video from Todd Nakamine’s bins o’ tapes. After checking the tape, it looks like this one was filmed by a guy named Pat. We don’t have his last name. Pat, if you are out there, please reach out so you can be recognized. Thanks for filming!
1987 Excel shows are just awesome. You have the 12 year old looking guitarist just riffing like hell, and the vocalist with the long hair thrashing around, and the crowd going ape shit. They were so impactful to us crossover kids when the demo came out- so good. This show took place at about the same time as the debut LP was released, but we all knew the songs.

Wasted Youth- Fender’s Ballroom, Long Beach Ca 4/10/87 xfer from 1st gen audio tape

For today’s on this date in history, you get to hear another sad story of tapes being thrown away.
My good friend Anonymous taped a lot of shows in southern california before moving up to the Sacramento area in 1987. This was one of the last ones before he moved here in the June/July time frame.
We had been friends for years and I was storing his cassettes in the garage of my house back in 2003. It was time to move and I called him one night and asked him what he wanted done with the tapes, and he said to go ahead and throw them away… nothing good is in there.
Well, that wasn’t true. There were many master tapes in there and while many of them sounded like this, that’s a lot of history tossed right into the trash. Sorry Anonymous. I should have kept them.
I got this from Anonymous in a trade in the 1987/88 time frame, so at least it can still me heard. Wasted Youth in their metal years!

Necropolis- Fenders Ballroom, Long Beach Ca 11/8/86 Transfer f/? Gen VHS tape Laguna Beach Thrash

Here’s a band I have never heard of, and it seems that a bunch of people have also never heard of them. When you look a band up on discogs and they are an old metal band, any demo tape that is released usually has a ton of demand. This one? Zero. Damn.

Necropolis were a thrash/Death Metal band from Laguna Beach, California. They released one demo and were on a comp with a bunch of bands including Bloodcum. Members were Andrew Prietto, Paul Chorbi, Robert Verns, Steve Resnick.

Ah man, I missed my daily posts for yesterday. Busy day grant writing and then off to Sudwerk to barely catch the start of the amazing sets there. Whew. Nice seeing everyone in real life! That means you get FIVE awesome things today- yesterday and today’s 2 scheduled posts and today’s “this date in history”.

This one is from Chris Eng’s collection. There were about a million bands playing at this show and the filmer seemed to have caught them all. Even though this is only 15 minutes long, it is the 2nd longest video that I can find out there by the band.

More from Chris Eng’s seemingly endless stream of bands on this one Fenders tape. A million bands played that day and this tape seems to have them all.
There is a better quality version of one song from this set online but it doesn’t seem like the full set is out there.

Final Conflict- Fender’s, Long Beach Ca 9/6/86 Full set soundboard audio only hardcore Motorhead

As I promised (or threatened, whichever is the case for you), here is the complete Final Conflict set. The video only has about 15min of real footage & soundboard audio, but the band played for 45min. Here is the complete set, audio only. This is worth the listen for the between song banter alone.

Cryptic Slaughter- Fender’s Ballroom, Long Beach 9/6/86 1st gen from band VHS copy enhanced

Back in 1986, Andy Andersen let me borrow a couple of Attitude Adjustment’s VHS tapes. This show from Fender’s has 3 bands- I have video for all 3 and soundboard audio for 2. This set is the one that doesn’t have a board tape, which is too bad because the audio sounds like hot garbage. Expect the 2 other sets to be posted with soundboard audio in the upcoming weeks.

Attitude Adjustment- Fender’s Ballroom, Long Beach Ca. 9/6/86 2nd gen VHS with Soundboard audio punk

Here’s another synch job that I have been hoping to get done for years. We had the video (not great quality, but this is a 1st gen from Andy Andersen) with HORRIBLE audio plus a separate soundboard audio tape that starts off kinda weird but improves after about 5min. Thanks to King Bean, we now have at least a listenable video. It was all distortion before.

Final Conflict- Fender’s, Long Beach Ca. 9/6/86 Low gen VHS synch with Soundboard Enhanced Hardcore

This is one of the better Final Conflict sets I have heard. They were opening for “Grave New World” era discharge, and they were not only bagging on them, but also the venue and anything else came to mind. Funny, entertaining show.
