The Dickies- Fender’s Ballroom, Long Beach Ca 7/25/86 xfer from unknown gen soundboard cassette

I picked this one for today’s On This Date in History because I thought it would sound good.. and it does get better after the first 10 minutes. I did my best to rebalance it for the first 10, but it’s still pretty rough. Forward Tricia Toyota at 10min if you can’t take it, haha.
It seems to cut at 47min. The tape is labeled in a somewhat confusing way, but I think that’s all of it that exists.

Agnostic Front- Fender’s Ballroom, Long Beach Ca 7/12/86 xfer from unknown gen soundboard tape NYHC

Back in the old punk rock tape trading days of the mid-1980’s, there were a lot of bad quality tapes. REALLY awful sounding stuff. Sometimes a trader would list a tape as a soundboard and it would be a mediocre audience. If you could actually hear the music= SOUNDBOARD! Actual soundboards would almost always be hissy and generated.
Every once in a while, you would get lucky and get a tape that sounds really nice. This one is really a soundboard and pretty damned good. Even though it is an unknown gen tape, there is little to no tape hiss. My only complaints were that it was lacking in bass (which I fixed in EQ) and vocals are a little buried (which I COULD fix if there is enough demand).
Overall, a nice sounding set during the Cause for Alarm era. Check out how low they are on this bill- holy crap what a lineup!

Bad Religion- Fender’s Ballroom Long Beach Ca 2/14/86 transfer from low gen VHS tape Soundboard Audio

Today’s collections post was late because I actually left the house and went to a show. The Alameda punk rock flea market was quite the event. All of the bands I saw (and did not film, believe it or not) kicked ass. Losin’ Streaks’ new guitarist was quite good as well. Saw some good friends and got to finally meet the TCS crew from KDRT! Met Arica for the best lunch ever. Good day.
This one is from Todd Nakamine’s collection. I was not at the PC that has Adobe Premiere Elements installed, so this is a raw render with no denoise. If anyone is dying to have a cleaner version, let me know. It can be done.
My good friend ⁨@PunksNotDeadGR⁩ has this show ID’d as Fender’s Ballroom, but that backdrop sure looks like Spaceland in L.A. but that is way too small of a venue for BR to play. Let me know if it is/is not Fender’s if you know. Thanks

The Replacements- Fender’s Ballroom, Long Beach Ca 12/13/85 xfer f/1st gen audio cassette

This is another one that surprised me by not being online anywhere from what I can tell. I don’t think this one came to me in a trade. It is on a DAT that I got on a trade from Alton Purvis, but it seems that someone brought the 1st gen cassette to me and I dubbed it up to the blank space at the end of the tape. This one was done with my OLD mid-90s setup.

Fans of the band know that their performances were unpredictable. They were definitely ON for this one. Even the reviewer was impressed. Cuts at 90, as does the master I believe.

I wonder how the taper snuck the huge deck into these taper hostile clubs.
