Absolutely Zippo- Time Capsule Comp Cassette Arica Pelino Version xfer f/official release Tape

More semi-unknown stuff from Arica Pelino’s collection, via Robert Eggplant. This tape is labeled Time Capsule and it has some commonalities with the Discogs release with the same title and artwork(Naked Aggression is on both, for example) but this one clearly has a different tracklist than the original documented version. I’ll ask Robert if he created multiple Time Capsules- it sure seems like he did.

X- KALX Interview w Xandy, Berkeley Ca 8/13/93 xfer f/KALX Archive Reel Exene John Doe Punk Band

It’s early but not too early for today’s audio post. I digitized some of KALX’ reels a few months back and most of them sounded terrible- the tapes probably need to be baked. This is one of the only ones that transferred well. Good X interview with a DJ named Xandy.

Twisted- Day at the Farm Interview, San Francisco Ca 7/11/87 xfer f/low gen audio cassette Riverside

OK, I can finally come up for air. I have been working on video reels for the Sonoma County Punk exhibit which opens tomorrow. I had to do a bunch of wacky stuff to get these clips to play together on a USB drive. Finally done.

This one is from Chris Eng’s collection. I think they were in a van, driving down the road and the background noise was comical. I ran it through spectral denoise and it is somewhat listenable now. There is 1 more interview from this day and it is hard to tell who it is.

This is how interviews were conducted for fanzines back then. Just a kid with a handheld tape recorder asking questions in the band’s van.

Accused- Interview with Blaine at Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco 6/25/87 xfer f/low gen audio tape

This tape is from Chris Eng’s collection, and it took some detective work to figure out. The tape had no date but it had a show from July 1987 on it along with this. I listened to the interview and sure enough, it’s the 87 show at the mab. I was able to narrow down SF because they talk about playing Salt Lake right before this (thanks Metallipromo for info) and got gear stolen. I happened to be at this show and I taped it with Mark’s consumer deck. I was wondering why they didn’t sound like they normally did- now I know, 39 years later- they were playing on borrowed gear!
