The Cranberries- Irvine Meadows, Irvine Ca 8/31/95 xfer f/DAT Master Audience tape w/Coresound Mics

I was going to share a Brent Best soundboard tape in honor of his birthday tomorrow, but It is in a spot I can’t access. Can’t wait to get this cast off my arm.
Instead, here is a mediocre recording I did from the last show I attended at Irvine Meadows. I remember that the opener (Toad the wet Sprocket) sounded way better- but I don’t see that recording on my list. Where did it go? Why did I even go see this show? I was not a huge fan and irvine was not close to home (Whittier). What does “1lt flt may cause postponement” on the ticket stub? So many questions.
I did my best to EQ this thing but it is still pretty bassy and muddy sounding. The curse of coresound mics in a big venue.

Pavement- Lollapalooza, Irvine Meadows, Irvine Ca 8/14/95 xfer from DAT Master Coresound Malkmus

I’m a little late with today’s on this date in history- it is my daughter’s first day of high school! Pretty exciting. I had to digitize this one as I didn’t have anything prepared.

Even though this isn’t as exciting as the 2nd stage set that I posted a year or 2 back, this is still a solid set. Surprised they got 50 minutes, but they were billed pretty high. I recalled this one not sounding great but it is a lot better than I remembered.

Beck- Lollapalooza, Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, Irvine Ca. 8/14/95 Xfer from DAT Master Audience

Back to the Lollapalooza 95 DAT master recordings. Here is the Beck set- he played early in the day- right after Jesus Lizard. This was in between the Mellow Gold (1994) and Odelay (1996) releases, but he does material from the upcoming Odelay album. Pretty cool. People got a little chatty around me during this one.

Elastica- Lolapalooza, Irvine Meadows, Irvine Ca 081495 DAT Master xfer Coresound Mics Alternative

Here’s the last Lollapalooza 95 show on this DAT. I taped more but they were all 2nd stage after this, I think. Anyway, this one is a little bassy, as most coresound recordings are.

Jesus Lizard- Lollapalooza, Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, Irvine Ca. 8/14/95 Xfer from DAT Master Aud

I know a lot of my friends went to the Lolla show in Sacramento, but I was living in Whittier at the time so I went to Irvine. The one upside of going to Irvine was Pavement- they played a “deep cuts” set on the second stage after playing a set on the main stage earlier in the day. It was awesome and totally worth hanging at the second stage for a good part of the day.
Anyway, here is Jesus Lizard’s opening set. I think they opened, it was the first band I taped that day.

Pavement- Lollapalooza, Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, Irvine Ca. 8/14/95 DAT Master xfer 2nd Stage

I wasn’t planning on posting this one today, but a few people asked me for it and it happened to be on the audio PC’s hard drive, already transferred from DAT. Awesome set- Opens with you’re killing me, includes Maybe Maybe, Box Elder, Forklift and a bunch of stuff off of Slanted and Enchanted. At the time, I thought it was the best show ever.

Bad Religion- Irvine no date possibly UC Irvine Crawford Hall 1/8/94 xfer f/DV Master tape

This one is from Guerin Myall’s collection and it is a difficult one to ID with a venue and date. The tape is marked “Bad Religion Irvine”. Graffin mentions 2 things that help narrow it down- he tells the crowd that American Jesus isa song they released “a couple years ago” and they mention Neil Young playing somewhere close by on this night- I assume Pacific Coast Amp or Irvine Meadows. This UCI show takes place after Recipe for Hate is released, but no Neil Young listings appear to be in that time frame. There are no newspaper articles of the band playing Irvine after this in the 1990s. Hmm. Adding to the confusion is what appears to be an Against the Grain backdrop. So, I don’t know what the hell it is. Any help is appreciated.

Suicidal Tendencies- UC Irvine, Irvine Ca 8/19/90 xfer from 2nd gen VHS tape Complete show

I found this one for today’s On This Date in History- it’s a 2nd gen VHS tape from Bootleg Cowboys’ collection. I checked online and there is only a poor quality incomplete version on youtube, from what I could find.

Keeping it short because I fractured my arm on Sunday night. Typing with a cast is no fun. Haha
