Slobberbone- Dan’s Silverleaf, Denton Tx 3/27/99 Set 2 Minidisc Soundboard Master xfer f/ DAT Clone

Forgot to trim again- forward to 1 minute in.
The shower of Slobberbone/Drams posts for Jess continues. 90 minute set with a lot of cool covers, including 2 uncle tupelo songs and the Merle Travis cover “Dark as a Dungeon”. Imagine seeing an hour-long set, and then seeing this one! That’s a lotta Slobberbone.
We think that this show was taped by George “Lowdog” Savage, I’ll email him and let him know we uploaded this.
Photo was pulled from Lance Davis’ Adios Lounge blog.

Slobberbone- Dan’s Silverleaf, Denton Tx 3/27/99 Set 1 Minidisc Soundboard Master xfer f/ DAT Clone

Aw crap, I forgot to trim the beginning. Fwd to 1:30 for the start of the show.
Here’s another Slobberbone audio only gem. This starts as an acoustic set with Scott Danbom on violin and then moves into the rock. Pretty good mix that I was able to help a bit in Izotope.
The 2nd set has not one, but TWO Uncle Tupelo covers.
RIP Jess. Banjo sounds great on this one.

Recorded by: I don’t know. If anyone knows who taped TX shows with the minidisc in the late 90s, let me know.

Yo La Tengo- WFMU Live in Studio Fund Raising Benefit,E Orange NJ 3/13/99 COVERS VHS Hifi Master-DAT

Here’s another really unique thing for On This Day in History. For many years, Yo La Tengo has helped WFMU raise money by playing live in studio for a couple hours during their fund raising telethons. The fun twist is this- if you donate $50, they will play any cover you request; or for $100, they will play an actual Yo La Tengo song. So you get a ton of coevrs and at least 1 YLT song that I heard.
This is the full 2 hour and 10 session, including the DJ discussion in between songs. If you want to hear YLT only, skip forard to about 15 minutes.
It’s really a fun listen.
Oh and PS: I know that this photo is from the 2000 WFMU fundraiser, but it was the closest thing I could find to represent this.

Strung Out- Bojangles, Sacramento Ca 3/6/99 Soundboard DAT Master Xfer Live

Hey, Strung Out are playing Holy Diver tonight! Here is a recording of their show from 20 years ago at the old Cattle Club building.
I think John Taylor was doing sound that night.
There are some odd dropouts that do not seem to be due to the typical DAT errors. I will play this on another deck (eventually) to see if they are there as well.

Twitch- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 3/5/?? Late 90s? Xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette Kwik Way

More Eggplant tapes today, and yet another obscure band playing Gilman. After too much poking around on Discogs, I think I figured out who these guys are. There are a LOT of twitches out there, but they appear to be Twitch(16) on discogs and they have the guitarist(Jules Worsley) and bass player(Eban Schletter) from early Gilman band Kwik Way. Alex Bromley and Mike Moreira round out the band. Fun fact- David Immergluck (Ophelias, Camper van Beethoven, Counting Crows) recorded and mixed their only 7″ release.
Mix is not good to start but improves at about the 6-8 minute mark.

Jeff Tweedy- Lounge Ax, Chicago Il 3/2/99 xfer from DAT Clone Complete show Uncle Tupelo Wilco

Man, This day in history has been heavy on the alt country/americana stuff recently. I have one more in the next week, then it is back to rockin’, I promise.
Here is a full show from Jeff exactly 1 week before “Summerteeth” was released. Probably my favorite non-uncle tupelo era from Jeff. This is a DAT clone- I got it from the guy who got it from the taper. I think the taper was Jeff Segota- he always had excellent gear. I wonder how he is doing now…
Oh, the photo used may or may not be from this show. It was titled “Jeff Tweedy Lounge Ax 1999”.
