Go National- Royer Park, Roseville Ca 4/24/99 xfer from VHS-C Master Tape Kevin 7 Seconds

First things first- if you want to see Kevin and Allyson perform along with Kepi Ghoulie, Jonah Matranga and David Houston, head on out to the Side Door tonight. These Christmas shows are always a spontaneous blast! I hope they will continue, even with Kepi moving to Portland. He will be there tonight.

Go National were a band (not calling it a side project because they are too good to be looked at that way) that featured Kevin Seconds, Allyson Seconds, Bobby Jordan, and Mark Harrod. Sure, they all had other projects going (7 Seconds, the Knockoffs, Forever Goldrush, etc), but this band stood on its own as one of Sacramento’s best rock bands.

When I picked up this tape from Kevin, we were chatting about the band and I said that this time frame (1999-2000) was my favorite era of the band. The band was firing on all cylinders. The camera woman did a nice job videotaping the show, but since she was in the front row/photo pit, you can’t hear vocals. If you want to hear a better audio representation of the band, check out the Miller park audio show on the website/channel.

Anyway, hope I see you at the Side Door tonight

Lesser of Two- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 4/20/99 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette Oakland Punk

Here’s another Eggplant tape for you today. The tape was marked “Captured by Robots and Friends” so I had to listen to the band name that was announced at the end of the show about 10 times to understand they were saying “lesser of two”. I am sure everyone DEFINITELY understood that, through Gilman’s PA (and acoustics) lol.
Lesser of Two are a Hardcore punk / Crust band from Oakland and had members that went on to play in the great cross stitched eyes and Planet on a Chain, who is playing Sac soon!
Believe it or not, this mix sounded even worse before I rebalanced it. Izotope could not read the guitar as guitar, so I could not do anything with guitar on this one.

Rebalance in Izotope Rx8: Bass +13(!), Drums -4. Yes, the drums were even more prominent in the mix.

Captured! by Robots- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 4/20/99 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

A little late with the post again today- here is one from Robert Eggplant’s collection. It’s Captured! By Robots from early in their “careers”. If you have never seen them, Jay Vance has programmed some robots to play punk rock. It sounds way more awesome in concept than execution. Ah well, hopefully there are some fans out there.
