The Faction- Blank Club, San Jose Ca. 9/6/14 Part 1 4 camera Multicam w/Soundboard Audio!

This may be the most stressed out I have ever been at a show. I had permission to video the show, but Blank Club has a strict “no tripod” rule. I got there planning to use these pole mounts instead- and the club had no poles. So I hopped in the car and drove to Fry’s to buy 2 monopods that I duct taped to the walls in the soundboard area and by the stage. I am shocked that it worked so well. During this entire ordeal, my friends were at dinner having fun. Thanks to Mike for bringing me food so I could eat something before they went on. The soundboard recording has some crackle/distortion for the first few songs. It gets a lot better, so hang in there. Thanks to Adam Bomb for the use of his “Amp Cam” video, and as always, thanks to Agelos and Bong for all their hard work mixing this stuff. Thanks!

This is part 1 only- you can find the rest of the show on Youtube

The Faction- Blank Club, San Jose Ca. 5/10/14 HD Master with Soundboard/Schoeps Aud matrix Caballero

I know that the schedule is audio on weekdays, video on weekends.. but I wanted to celebrate RSII’s recovery from COVID with this video! Ray plays bass for the faction and was in ICU for a while with a severe case of the virus. There were about a million people pulling for him, and the good vibes must have come through.. plus Ray is a bad ass so that might have helped.

This is the band’s first show back after a 10+ year layoff, and Adam’s first show with the band in even longer.

Deftones- San Jose Events Center 10/17/00 xfer from 8mm master tape Enhanced

Here’s another one from Gary Shurtleff (fromthenosebleeds on yt). Here is Sacramento-based Deftones touring the White Pony release. Man, this one cleaned up nice- I captured this with the lossless setup and it really helped with the denoise. I guess it’s worth dealing with 100GB files all the time for this result.

Cheap Trick- Raging Waters, San Jose Ca 8/1/98 xfer from master tape Audio Only Live

I just finished up another round of Eric Mcintire’s tapes, and this one was pretty unique. Cheap Trick playing at a water park! Where the hell did they play? Was there a stage? Could you see them from the lazy river? So many questions.
You need to respect a band like Cheap Trick, who is one of the USA’s greatest rock bands. It doesn’t matter where they are playing or what (lesser) band they are opening for, they always rock. I don’t think I have ever heard of them mailing in a show.

PS: This tape was all seized up so I had to unscrew the shell just so the hubs would turn. Thank goodness for the dragon.

Jello Biafra- Laundry Works, San Jose 11/7/86 xfer from master tape Spoken Word Dead Kennedys

Here’s a long one for you, so it’s good to get it posted early so you have plenty of time to listen today.
One of the most fun things about digging through Wayne’s box of tapes is stumbling upon stuff like this, which was clearly taped by him (he lived in the south bay) and never circulated. The quality on this is decent, there is a bit of noise in the room I could not mix out… but it is listenable. It’s Jello in a laundromat nightclub- how can you beat that?

Accept- San Jose Civic Auditorium, San Jose Ca. 4/18/84 Xfer from master cassette

Out of Doug’s entire box of tapes, this one has the most sentimental value for me, by far. I turned 16 in late August of 1983 and had bought my own car (and paid my insurance).. but my parents would not allow me to drive out of the Sacramento area, especially on a school night. This was the first time that I was able to go out of town for a concert. I packed the car full of friends- I remember my cousin Kim being there, and classmate Todd Heldt.. can’t remember who else went.
At the time, Accept was one of the heaviest and fastest metal bands out there. Their prior album, Restless and Wild’s kickoff track was the fastest thing we had ever heard at the time (well, them and Motorhead). We were also big fans of Saxon, but I was not too keen on the Crusader album… So, to say I was jacked up about the show was an understatement.
I still remember clearly them coming out and starting the show with Fast as a Shark, with Udo pacing the stage with those fingerless gloves. Core memory, I suppose. Is 16 years old too old to have a core memory? Listening to this gives me chills. Thank you so much, Doug.
