Practice tape from Dry Idea from Elk Grove, CA. 1987.
Alright, I need to get psyched up for this one and NOT make fun of it. Here is a legendary glam band who never released an album. They had a couple songs on the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Rebels & The Sunset Strip Boxset – Volume 1” and that was about it. I think most of you know that I am not a big fan of this type of music, but it is well done. You’ll like it if you like that kind of thing.

Here is today’s audio post, from Scott Davey/Iguana Studios’ archive. It seems that Die Bossa Nova was well known and highly regarded in San Francisco in the 1980’s, but they don’t seem to have any official releases or any demos up on youtube. Odd.
The jewel case had a label that said “Pre-Davey”, so I assume that Scott played with the band and this demo might have been a way for him to rehearse the songs. That’s pretty cool.

Collections post from Bootleg Cowboy today. This is the 2nd to last MRR tape that I see in the box. This one is not as long as the others, which were a full 90 min tape. This one takes up most of side B, so about 40 minutes. No notes about the bands or tracks, so we can all be surprised. I love these tapes- they are still fun to discover new bands.

Collections post from Scott Capizzano’s box of tapes today. Scott’s stuff is always an adventure. Some things are incredibly rare and possibly one of a kind, and others are commonly circulated shows. It’s up to me to sift through it and figure it out.
This tape had both released music and rarities on the same tape. Those first 10 tracks (all of side A and the first track of side B) were released by the band in 2 volumes of compilations in 2010 and 2018. The last 5 songs appear to be unreleased, except for “Hush Child” and this is a different version. Shazam can’t ID them and the rest of the song titles are not in any of the band’s releases on discogs. Whew. That took some detective work.

Today’s collections post comes from Bootleg Cowboy’s cassette collection. Just FYI, I have been posting videos from BC’s collection for the past couple years, but we are putting a pause on that for the foreseeable future. Audio only for the time being.
These old radio shows are fun- such a cool time capsule, and pre-internet, it was one of the only ways to hear new music. BC has 4 or 5 of these tapes, so expect 1 every month or so.

There is absolutely nothing about this band online- nothing on discogs, nothing through the usual internet searches. They played this show with Gore and Country Bob and the bloodfarmers, so I assume they were local. If anyone has anything on the band, please let me know!
Update: Thanks to youtube commenter “chebag”, we now know that they were called Groupoem and had 2 self releases- one CD and one 12″- both from Canada, so I assume they are from Canada as well.

i probably denoised this in Adobe premiere elements and Neat video
It’s Friday, so you get a video. This one is from the tapes I bought from Russ Gibb’s estate. Man, there is not much on this band out there. Discogs has a number of self and independent released things by the band, but not much else. According to discogs, most members never did anything outside of this band. Here is the amazing description there: “American punk rock band from Detroit, Michigan that was active 1981-1991.”. Thanks.
Pretty standard 3 chord, screaming punk. I like how the band’s large banner is put up halfway through the set, while the band is playing.
