Flame- The S3xual Kind Demo 1987 xfer f/master audio cassette San Francisco Hard Rock/Glam band

This one is from a NEW audio collection from Laura Martinez. I have never seen so many Sacramento/Bay Area Hard Rock/Glam demos in one place before!

Flame were from San Francisco and they put out a couple of LP’s in the late 80s/early 90s. The self released one is going for $375 on discogs, so they must still have a following. Laura has multiple demos of the band, so more to come!

This is a demo recorded a couple years before they released that self-titled LP.

Junkyard- Demo 1987 Los Angeles Hard Rock Band Brian Baker

This one is from Anonymous 3’s collection and it is one of those mystery tapes. I tried Shazam’ing a bunch of tracks and they all ID’d, but to one of 3 different releases including their self titled debut, but that can’t be right. The most likely release that these versions are from is the “Put It On Ten And Pull The Knobs Off!” band self-released CDR in 2008… but 5 of the songs here are not on there. So, ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Sam Mann and thee Apes- Refused Demo 1987 xfer f/master demo tape Hollywood Glam Hard Rock Metal

Alright, I need to get psyched up for this one and NOT make fun of it. Here is a legendary glam band who never released an album. They had a couple songs on the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Rebels & The Sunset Strip Boxset – Volume 1” and that was about it. I think most of you know that I am not a big fan of this type of music, but it is well done. You’ll like it if you like that kind of thing.

Die Bossa Nova- Demo 1987 xfer f/band’s tape San Francisco New Wave Ray Vaughn Ed Rawlings Scott Dav

Here is today’s audio post, from Scott Davey/Iguana Studios’ archive. It seems that Die Bossa Nova was well known and highly regarded in San Francisco in the 1980’s, but they don’t seem to have any official releases or any demos up on youtube. Odd.

The jewel case had a label that said “Pre-Davey”, so I assume that Scott played with the band and this demo might have been a way for him to rehearse the songs. That’s pretty cool.

MaximumRocknroll- Tape 4, late 1980’s xfer f/ master audio cassette MRR Maximum Rock Roll Radio Show

Collections post from Bootleg Cowboy today. This is the 2nd to last MRR tape that I see in the box. This one is not as long as the others, which were a full 90 min tape. This one takes up most of side B, so about 40 minutes. No notes about the bands or tracks, so we can all be surprised. I love these tapes- they are still fun to discover new bands.

Rock City Angels- Unreleased Demos 1980s? xfer from low gen audio cassette Hard Rock Glam

Collections post from Anonymous 3’s box of tapes today. Scott’s stuff is always an adventure. Some things are incredibly rare and possibly one of a kind, and others are commonly circulated shows. It’s up to me to sift through it and figure it out.

This tape had both released music and rarities on the same tape. Those first 10 tracks (all of side A and the first track of side B) were released by the band in 2 volumes of compilations in 2010 and 2018. The last 5 songs appear to be unreleased, except for “Hush Child” and this is a different version. Shazam can’t ID them and the rest of the song titles are not in any of the band’s releases on discogs. Whew. That took some detective work.
