Gore- Greystone, Detroit Mi 1/1/87 Xfer from master Beta Videotape Russ Gibb Archive Hardcore Thrash

Thanks to Laurent Ram for pointing out this Gore video from a photo I posted. I had bought this tape from the Russ Gibb archive auction and I thought that it was the band Gore from Holland.. turns out that there is a somewhat legendary thrash/hardcore band of the same name from Detroit.
They put out a couple of demo tapes around this time- “Stem The Bloodbath” in 1986 and “The Massacre Of Humanity” in 1987. It looks like they played at least 1 recent show, in August of 2024.
This one seems to be the earliest known Gore video and the only full show that I see online, so there’s that. Sounds good as well.

Country Bob and the Bloodfarmers- Graystone, Detroit Mi 1/1/87 xfer f/ master beta Cowpunk Russ Gibb

It seems that this band is somewhat legendary. There is a really good extensive interview/article on Dangerous Minds from about 10 years ago, which has some album tracks and a 6 minute video embedded. There are plenty of short videos of the band on youtube, but only one other complete set. So this seems pretty unique.
It looks like this is one angle of a multicamera shoot that has never seen the light of day. The 6 minute live (multicam) clip and the only other complete show seem to be from the same concert at Graystone, and it’s not this one.
I’ll link the dangerous minds article in the facebook comments, it’s a good one.

Raven Slaughter- Demo and Live 4 track 1987 xfer f/ low gen audio cassette Cleveland Los Angeles

We received a new collection recently from Scott Capizzano. Scotty is an old friend- in fact, he crashed the very first concert I held. I had a kegger party in the back yard of my Dad’s house off Mariposa Ave in 1983 or 84. Bodily Harm and Legion played. These older dudes(by a couple years)- one with some pretty cool hair came in after the bands stopped. That’s how I met Scotty. We have been in contact on and off for the past 40 years. He has played drums in a bunch of bands from the 80s on and has most recently been in Circus of Power and The Stoning. His collection has many of his own bands along with others. Lots of metal in his collection with a bias to the glam side.
Here is the first tape I picked out. Raven Slaughter(person) was from Cleveland, then moved to Florida, back to Cleveland, to Los Angeles (which is when this demo was produced), back to Cleveland, then to Montreal. I can’t find any info on him after 2016, when he was supposed to play a show in Cleveland but was too weak from MS to make the trip. I’ll shamelessly tag Ken Dixon/Cleveland Live Music since his friends would probably appreciate this, and maybe fill us in on him post-2016.
Tape seems to be a copy off the master, but quality is a bit lacking. Includes a few live songs recorded to 4 track.

Operation Ivy- El Sobrante House Party 1987 xfer from master audio cassette w/photos from the show

Happy Monday before election day, everyone! I think that many people are suffering from pre-election stress, so here is a cool little distraction. Joel Wing (former Corrupted Morals bassist) posted a photo from this house party the other day, and I knew that Eggplant had recorded this show, as he had given me the tape to digitize. I asked Joel for the photos and he sent 3, so that sped up the process of getting this posted. Thanks Eggplant and Joel for this one! Joel, if you have any pics of Isocracy from this, I wouldn’t refuse those as well.
It’s only 4 minutes. That’s all there is. But it’s uncirculated Op Ivy from 87. I EQ’d this and tried to rebalance but all it did was boost distortion.
Head on over to the Sacramento Music Archive website to see the additional photos!

M.D.C.- Live Unknown Location 1986/87 xfer from low gen soundboard cassette rebalanced Millions Dead

This is the 4th and last set on Wayne’s CoP 4/25/87 tape. This one was immediately after the Christ on Parade Farm 1986 set, but MDC did not play the farm that day. This one has less hiss and was easier to rebalance. There is no banter in between songs that tells us where it is from. If anyone has any ideas of a venue/date, let me know. It’s definitely not the farm, since he refers to a packed stage and bouncers in between songs.

Team Urinals- Live Unknown xfer from audio cassette Rocklin Roseville Sacramento Punk 1980’s?

Wow, after 1 day, that Suicidal Ruthie’s show has more views than anything on the channel that was posted in the past month. I mean, I knew people liked their Suicidal, but I didn’t realize liked them this much!
So for today, I’ll post the most obscure thing that I have prepped. I asked around and although Team Urinals was a local band from the 80’s, nobody can seem to recall who was in the band. So if you know, please chime in. I think they went to Roseville High School at the same time that we did.
This recording sounded even worse before I worked on it- I did my best to find some guitar and cut that infernal high end.

Opinion Zero- Storm and Stress Demo 1987 xfer from low gen? Cassette Tuscon Az

This one was on one of James Edmonds’ cassettes. It looks like a dubbed copy, but it also has the original heavy stock J-Card in there… so is it an original demo? Dunno. It has a ton of hiss, so I assume not. This was one of the very first bands I saw at Gilman- they played the first one I attended.. not sure if I saw these guys or Last Option first. Tracklist is in the video image, about a minute in.

Desecration (az)- Metro, Phoenix Az. 11/21/86 xfer from low gen VHS tape enhanced

Here is a incredibly rare video from Arizona’s Desecration. In 1987, these guys were pretty popular with tape traders and the Gilman crowd. I thought they would end up being pretty popular, but they released one split LP with Subverse and that was about it.
This one comes from Wayne VanDerkuil’s archive — one of the few videos in there, and the only one I have never seen anywhere.

Chris Isaak- Radisson Hotel, Sacramento Ca. 1/1/87? xfer from 8mm Master Tape

Here is another one from Laurie Vilarich’s amazing collection. I am doubtful of the date- 8mm camcorders were not super common in early 87, but that is the only Chris Isaak show at the Radisson that I can find. Camerawork is a bit shaky- I should run this through deshaker sometime- it definitely needs it.

It’s still an amazing document of Isaak with Wilsey still on guitar.

Maximum Rock N Roll Radio Show 1987 w/Short Operation Ivy Interview MRR

This is the last tape that I digitized for Gary Shurtleff this time around. It was “Robert Moody’s Thrash Thursdays”, but the first 30min of the tape was an MRR radio show. Not only that, but it cuts in with Operation Ivy in the studio, with Jesse & Lint introducing “here we go again”. I asked Gary about it, and he has no recollection about how that got on there. Gotta love happy accidents.
