Last year, Lizz Fisher asked me if I wanted to be the keeper/steward of the Sacto Active Rock U-Matic master tapes. I could not say YES fast enough! Thank you so much, Lizz! Sacto Active Rock was a Sacramento Cable show in the early 90s and THE place to perform live in studio for the local Punk/Metal/Alternative/Ska scene.
Background: A U-Matic tape is a very large videotape that was used as Television’s main format until digital came along. The players for these tapes are also massive- the one I have weighs over 81lbs! All of the Sacto Active Rock episodes that were posted before I got these were from VHS- either a copy from these tapes, or taped off cable TV. So this is an upgrade!
Not only that, but there was never a VHS tape made for this particular performance, so this seems to be the first time this one is online and available to watch.
Expect the rest of the episodes to be posted over time. Except for one certain blues man who wanted his pulled down because it doesn’t represent who he is now.
