Teenage Fanclub- Jabberjaw, Los Angeles Ca 11/9/91 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape

It’s time for another Patreon voter’s choice, and once again the patrons have great taste. This has to be the smallest venue that TFC has ever played, and at the time that they were poised to “break out”. They played SNL less than 2 months later! What a cool show to be at. This is why Jabberjaw was legendary.

It’s a bit dark in spots and the audio isn’t great but it is still enjoyable.

Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers- Greek Theatre, Los Angeles Ca 9/19/91 DAT Master Audience Nak300

About a year before I moved to L.A., I spent a week on vacation there. It was fun- I got to visit American Records HQ (my friend Matt Polish worked there), hit Disneyland and some of the common L.A. attractions. When I checked the Times, there were no good punk/alternative shows coming up at all. This was the one show that looked good to me at the time.
This might have been the first time I used the Sony TCD-D3 and Nakamichi CM300 mic together… and boy was it problematic. I kept losing signal, or losing a channel so I would unplug and plug the mic back in. This is why you hear some parts missing. Sorry about that.
As a side note, people should not bring sports referee-style whistles to an event where you are supposed to listen to music.

Alice Cooper- KLOS Parking Lot, Los Angeles Ca 8/27/91 Xfer from 8mm master tape Enhanced

Here is an impressive camera job. It looks like Barry (the filmer) might have shot this from outside the fenced parking lot area. You can see in the 7 min of video that I forgot to trim at the beginning (sorry) that the camera moves around- from behind a fence and eventually to an elevated area with a clear shot of the band utilizing a zoom lens and possibly a tripod/monopod. Forward to 7min for the start of the show. Unfortunately, the audio is pretty distorted. If anyone has a better audio source, let me know. We can get to synching it.

Alice Cooper- KLOS Parking Lot, Los Angeles Ca 8/27/91 xfer f/low gen VHS tape TN version

Now that the Video transfer setup is back up, you get a complete rotation of collections. Thanks to Nicholas Serra for the help- it turned out the be the capture dongle that died.

I had posted a different angle of this show filmed by Barry Goldstein a while back. This one was in Todd Nakamine’s collection and filmed a lot closer to the stage, but there are a lot of obstructions. Maybe some enterprising edit dude can put the 2 of them together.

Ride- Club Lingerie, Los Angeles Ca 4/13/91 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Andy Bell Mark Gardener

It’s a BONUS post for you on this fine Monday. This was last week’s Patreon voter’s choice. I really thought that the Old 97s video was going to win it, but Ride came out on top. This week, we are voting for an uncirculated Cattle Club show. Yep, there are still more recordings from Cattle to post. Sign up to Patreon- link below. It’s fun, it’s tax deductibe, and it’s the time of year to scramble for deductions!

This one wasn’t as bad as I remembered. I recalled it being super dark and the audio being distorted beyond listenability. It’s actually pretty well lit- only the drummer is dark. The audio only distorts badly when the vocals are peaked. So, not terrible.

Go,Dog.Go!- Club Lingerie, Los Angeles Ca. 1991 Multicamera xfer from VHS Master

From Paul: Of all the clubs in LA we played, our weakest draw was at Club Lingerie on the Sunset strip. Naturally it was the only club that offered an in house recording of the show you performed, for more than nominal fee and it was delivered in almost lifelike VHS (the industry standard in 1991. The Audio was recorded directly from the board, hence the low guitar level. I did what I could to liven the sound quality.Club Linerie closed its doors in April 1995.

Bruce Springsteen- Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles 11/17/90 Lossless xfer from 8mm master Enhanced

Time for a little experiment here. I’ve heard that some Bruce videos were being pulled down and the dreaded copyright strike issued. It looks like that is only where the video and/or audio comes from nugs.net. Well, since this has neither, I’m going to give it a go. If it disappears and I seem grumpy, you’ll know what happened.
ATTN: BRUCE COPS- please contact me at shaynestacy@hotmail.com if you have an issue. I’ll take it down if asked.

Yo La Tengo- Rhino Records, Westwood Ca 8/30/90 xfer f/4th gen audio cassette

this bonus post is from my collection for my long-time friend Pete Markall. Pete would hang out and go to shows with me in the 1990s when I lived in southern cal. Pete is recuperating from some medical stuff and asked for this one, so everyone gets it.

This set starts as a standard YLT acoustic show from that time frame and then gets loud about 40 minutes in, starting with “Emulsified”. The recording isn’t a professional walkman type of thing, but it doesn’t distort too bad- it’s enjoyable.

David Bowie- Los Angeles Sports Arena 5/23/90 xfer f/8mm Master Tape Enhanced Adrian Belew Full show

Happy daylight savings day, what is everyone doing with the extra hour? I cleaned the garage, took the car for a wash, and donated some stuff to (ugh) goodwill.
Anyway, here is another one from Barry Goldstein. My friend Erik sent me the master tapes to digitize with the lossless setup a few months back, and we got the go-ahead to post. There are a few more forthcoming.
I must have the wrong date on my Bowie from Sacramento- I think it was the day after this, but it is also listed as 5/23 on the site.
