Bruce Springsteen- Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles 11/17/90 Lossless xfer from 8mm master Enhanced

Time for a little experiment here. I’ve heard that some Bruce videos were being pulled down and the dreaded copyright strike issued. It looks like that is only where the video and/or audio comes from nugs.net. Well, since this has neither, I’m going to give it a go. If it disappears and I seem grumpy, you’ll know what happened.
ATTN: BRUCE COPS- please contact me at shaynestacy@hotmail.com if you have an issue. I’ll take it down if asked.

Yo La Tengo- Rhino Records, Westwood Ca 8/30/90 xfer f/4th gen audio cassette

this bonus post is from my collection for my long-time friend Pete Markall. Pete would hang out and go to shows with me in the 1990s when I lived in southern cal. Pete is recuperating from some medical stuff and asked for this one, so everyone gets it.

This set starts as a standard YLT acoustic show from that time frame and then gets loud about 40 minutes in, starting with “Emulsified”. The recording isn’t a professional walkman type of thing, but it doesn’t distort too bad- it’s enjoyable.

David Bowie- Los Angeles Sports Arena 5/23/90 xfer f/8mm Master Tape Enhanced Adrian Belew Full show

Happy daylight savings day, what is everyone doing with the extra hour? I cleaned the garage, took the car for a wash, and donated some stuff to (ugh) goodwill.
Anyway, here is another one from Barry Goldstein. My friend Erik sent me the master tapes to digitize with the lossless setup a few months back, and we got the go-ahead to post. There are a few more forthcoming.
I must have the wrong date on my Bowie from Sacramento- I think it was the day after this, but it is also listed as 5/23 on the site.

Groovie Ghoulies- Music Machine, Los Angeles Ca. 1/25/89 Multicam

These next videos are ones that I (nor Jim, Zoran etc) filmed. Since Groovie Ghoulies were based in Sacramento (and Kepi went to high school with me), they get posted. Here is a CLASSIC multicam of an early incarnation of the band, when they were based in L.A. That hair is amazing.

Flower Leperds- Stardust Ballroom, Los Angeles 8/18/88 1st gen band VHS tape Tony Cadena Adolescents

Back in 1988, I filmed the Flower Leperds at Gilman and sent Tony a copy. In return, he sent me a VHS tape packed with 6 hours of Flower Leperds and other videos. I was, and still am, grateful for his generosity. This was one of at least 3 FL shows on that tape.

This was during that time after the Adolescents reformed, but then Tony left the band and Rikk took over vocal duties. This is what Tony was doing at that time.

Excel- Balboa Theater, Los Angeles Ca 6/25/88 xfer from 3rd gen VHS tape uncirculated balcony angle!

After video cameras became affordable (below $1k) in the late 1980s, I bought my camera and started filming as many shows as I could. I would make friends with people who did the same in other cities and trade copies of videos. Every once in a while, requests for trades would come from unusual places. This is one of those odd ones- I never traded with the guy who we got tapes from, but my good friend Anonymous knew him well. He was the intermediary, even though he didn’t really trade videos.
Another thing that just kills me about this video is that I threw out my 2nd gen copy of the show in the great divorce purge of 2005, thinking that is was common. Well, it wasn’t common- that happened more than once. Thankfully, Gary Shurtleff got a copy from me, so this is still watchable. This is a different angle than Louis Elovitz’ stage angle. In fact, his angle and this one would probably edit together nicely, if we could locate the master tape of this angle.

Henry Rollins- Los Angeles, Ca. 1988 xfer from 1st gen (?) cassette Spoken Word

Wayne V traded tapes with a member of the band Haywire from L.A. for a stretch, and they sent a tape of their band (nice recording) from the late 80s. At the beginning of the tape, there was this rollins spoken word. I was unsure if this was an official release, so I tried to Shazam it and no results. So, let’s run with it. 8 min of Rollins today

Haywire- Los Angeles, Ca. 1988 1st gen from band soundboard cassette Alternative Grunge Crossover

Wayne V traded with a member of Haywire back in the late 80s, and they sent him this tape. These guys were on We Bite Records (same label as Attitude) and consisted of Billy Rubin, John Bruce, Rick Greeno, and Vadim Rubin. They sound like they were part of the early alternative/grunge sound, before it was coined “grunge”.- Discogs has them down as a crossover band, which this recording could be considered.. but not the album I heard. Regardless, really good stuff and worth a listen.

Jello Biafra- KABC-AM Talk Radio int w/Michael Jackson, Los Angeles Ca 4/2/87 PMRC Obscenity Trial

Here is a MUST LISTEN for today’s On This Date in History. This is an interview with a remarkably well-prepared talk radio host shortly after the PMRC Senate hearings. One of the right wing/religious people trying to take action against the music calls in, and Jello is remarkable in his off-the-cuff debate with this person. Unfortunately, when you hear Jello talk about the state of politics and the country, it seems that not much has changed in the 38 years since this took place.
This is AM radio, so adjust quality expectations accordingly.
