Exodus- Hemmerleinhalle, Nuremberg Germany 10/19/85 xfer from audio cassette East Bay Thrash Metal

Another LATE collections post. Sorry. My daughter is playing high school soccer so I have been roped in (actually I volunteered) to video’ing their games.. outside.. in the goddamn 40 degree fog. So that activity has thrown my schedule into chaos. So cold. I don’t know how you people in the cold weather states do it.
Anyway, this one is from Chris Eng’s collection and it seems to not be too well circulated. It does not sound good, but any Baloff-era Exodus is pure gold in my opinion. Plus, they opened for Venom. Hot damn.

EQ’d the best I could in Sony Sound Forge 10. Yes, it sounded even worse before!

Exodus- Palladium, Hollywood Ca 4/19/85 xfer from master tape Ultimate Revenge Thrash Metal

Back to Tour Manager Doug’s treasure trove of tapes. I still need to send pics to confirm that he did tape this one (it sounds slightly different), but this one is pretty awesome- an uncirculated Ultimate Revenge show!
Let’s start with Exodus’ opening set. They only had 30min and made good use of it. Ripping set of mostly BBB tracks. More to come tomorrow. (Hint hint)

Exodus- Crest Theater, Sacramento Ca 4/13/85 xfer from master Audio Cassette Thrash Metal

Alright, I hope that the Monday after Spring forward is going ok for you all. I had a head start yesterday with an EARLY soccer game for my daughter. Who dreams up these schedules anyway…
This is a recording that I posted before, but it was a 1st or 2nd gen copy. This one is right off Doug’s master tape. Here’s what I previously said about the show:
“This was my first time seeing Exodus and it was life changing. I think we came in during their set and we were just floored with the band’s intensity. You can’t really tell with the quality of this one, but they sounded amazing. When they got to Strike of the Beast, I was converted. Bought BBB as soon as it was released a couple weeks later.”

Exodus- Crest Theater, Sacramento Ca 4/13/85 xfer from low gen cassette

Mediocre Monday Y’all. When I inherited Mark Martin’s tape collection, he kept a few shows for himself. This was one of them and I somehow never had a copy.. or ever even seen one until I came across this one in Wayne Vanderkuil’s box of stuff. Thanks Wayne!

I did my best to make this listenable- despite the EQ settings, it is still suffers a bit from high end distortion.

Exodus- Studio 54, Manhattan, NY 4/3/85 xfer f/ master audio cassette partial set audience recording

No week is complete without an Exodus tape from Doug. A LOT of Doug’s remaining stuff consists of master Slayer tapes, but I keep reaching for the Exodus shows. This partial show filled the rest of the B”B side of the L’Amour tape I posted last month. Same show as is on the officially released video, but this has more of the performance.

Exodus- L’amour, Queens NY 4/2/85 xfer from master audio cassette Thrash MITFR

Here’s a cool historical document- the night before the Studio 54 show (seen on the Ultimate Revenge home video), Slayer and Exodus played a show 7 miles away at L’amour East. Lucky New Yorkers to get 2 shows, for sure.

I think this is one of Doug’s master tapes. I hear him yelling as Exodus does Impaler as an encore. It also sounds like one of his walkman recordings.. but the tape does not say “original” as many of his masters do and it is on a different tape brand than usual. I am sure Doug or Mark Kurtzner will correct me if I am way off base.

EDIT: It’s a master tape. Thanks Doug!

Exodus- The Stone, San Francisco Ca. 1/5/85 xfer from 1st gen audio cassette

Happy Monday everyone. If you are an Exodus fan, you MUST listen to this. I can’t believe how good this one sounds, given the “early punk/metal days” equipment used. Tour Manager Doug clearly had the magic touch when finding a room’s sweet spot.
Not only that, but this is in that time frame where the band were playing some of my favorite sets- a lot from Bonded by Blood (fka “A Lesson in Violence” as the flyer shows) plus the best pre-album tracks- in fact, these might be the best recordings of Death Row, Hell’s Breath and Impaler out there. Baloff’s vocal performance is top notch. This one will be a show I go back to and listen repeatedly. Thanks Doug.
