KZAP- Sacramento Living Library Event, Time Tested Books, Sacramento 4/17/11 xfer f/ DV Master Tape

Here is another video today, from Dennis Newhall’s collection. I might try to set a record today with not one, not two… but THREE video posts. I can’t remember the last time that happened!
This one isn’t actual music, but they definitely talk about music and Sacramento/KZAP history!

Here is the Sacramento News and Review’s blurb about the event, published back in 2011:
“For Sacramentans of a certain age range, there was only ONE radio station that mattered: 98.5 KZAP.
From its freeform beginnings to its hard rock heyday, KZAP was Sacramento’s soundtrack for nearly 25 years. Join well known radio personalities Bob Hughson, Bob Keller, Dennis Newhall and Robert Williams for a look back at the valley’s much beloved rock station. And a bit of advice: show up early if you want a seat, I think this one is gonna be big.”

The audio is not the best- you can understand what the panel is saying, but there is some light distortion. There is also some A/V synch issues later in the event. Still an interesting watch!

Oppressed Logic- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca 10/2/09 xfer from MiniDV Master Tape Josh Parten Archive

Oh man, today is going to be one hell of a mess at Aftershock. I hope everyone is cool and doesn’t throw mud. If I get hit in the head/hat with a mud ball, I am going to freak the hell out. Plus, walking in the slick mud with a fractured wrist is gonna be a GREAT time… Protect this old man if you see me. Haha.

This On This Date in History is another one from Joah Parten’s box of MiniDV master tapes. I remember that Josh had more Dv tapes that he wanted me to transfer but we never got to them. If anyone has his tapes and wants me to continue with the archiving/memorial, please reach out. I’ll do ’em, distorted audio and all.

Bobby Joe Ebola & The Children MacNuggits – Luigi’s Fungarden, Sacramento, CA 09-26-09

Here’s a video of Bobby Joe Ebola & The Children MacNuggits live at Luigi’s Fungarden in 2009. I believe this is their first show back in Sacramento since reforming in 2009. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend this show due to catching the flu a few days before the show. Bobby Joe Ebola is one of my favorite bands, so it really hurt not being able to go the show. Thankfully, my friend videotaped it.

Byron Blackburn’s Labor Day Session 9/7/09 Rare independent release CD Tony Passarell Free Jazz

I debated posting this one from Tony Passarell’s collection since it is an official release, but it seems pretty hard to find so I went ahead.

By the way, if you are not watching the world baseball classic or the awards show and you like jazz, you should head out to Musiclandria since Tony’s son Charlie is doing an Anime Aliens saxophone set. He is working tirelessly to get a lively jazz scene happening here.

BB King- Profile of a Performing Artist xfer f/Master Record Company VHS tape

Here is another really unique one from Todd Nakamine’s VHS tapes. This is a rough copy of a TV special in BB King. This one is actually on Youtube by the company that produced the video, but it was posted 19 years ago which means it is in 240p. This one is much better quality.

The Temptations- Reflections EPK Rough Cut Viewing Copy 1/19/06 xfer f/Master VHS Dub

Here’s another fun one from Todd Nakamine’s collection. This appears to be a review copy of some interview clips and a performance for an EPK. Still has time codes and all.

BTW, I figured out why the new ATI thing made everything sound terrible- the levels are defaulted too high out of the box and it causes transfers to distort. You need to hack the registry and adjust volume input from there. Crazy, but I am grateful for digitalfaq and Nicholas Serra for the help and knowledge.

Final Summation- Punk Rock Academy Radio Show, Sacramento 10/24/05 Interview w/Andy Hawk & Acoustic

Wow, what a great radio show. Andy Hawk hosted this show on Howard 93.7 in the mid-2000’s. He played local bands along with the bigger bands, and had locals in studio. Here is about 25min of the radio show where he interviewed Final Summation and they played a song live in studio. They come on at about the 20min mark.
At the end of the show, Andy announces Alive and Kicking radio is up next! Jerry Perry, do tapes exist?
