Teenage Fanclub- Rodney on the Roq, KROQ FM, Pasadena 11/13/94 xfer DAT Master Brian Wilson Live Int

Wow, this is really cool. I thought that I had posted this one but I couldn’t find it on YT. I really wish that I was able to stay up late every Sunday to tape ROTR, but I had a job. And a 1 hour commute. And a 1 year old.
1st 20min-plus is interview, then 2 acoustic songs like in studio… including Brian Wilson’s “Love and Mercy” performed by the band for the first time.

The Go-Go’s: Rodney on the Roq, Los Angeles Ca. 10/2/94 Audio xfer from DAT Master

Back when I lived in L.A., I would sometimes check who was on some of the weekly KROQ shows. If it was someone interesting, I would fire up the DAT machine and record it. Looking back, I regret not recording every Rodney show + any loveline show with a musical guest. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 and all…
For this show, The Go-Go’s had reunited in 2004 and were premiering their new single “the world has lost its head” for the upcoming(at the time) 2 disc retrospective “return to the valley of the go-go’s”. This is the entire show- interviews, call-ins, songs played and commercials! It is a time capsule of mid-90s KROQ.

Ride- Live in studio on Rodney on the Roq, KROQ-FM 7/25/93 xfer from DAT FM Master Recording

This one is a nice memory- Cameron, my first son had just been born the day before and I had been at the hospital for a few days straight. I ran home to get some rest and Rodney was on, announcing that Ride was going to be live in the studio. I hit record on the DAT machine and crashed out. I am so glad I recorded this because it is awesome! Many songs acoustic.
The highlight of this one is when 2 teenage girls call in and they are bickering back and forth while on the air! Ride (I think it was Andy) asks them “have you ever heard of Beavis and Butthead (because they sounded a lot like them) and they did not get the joke at all! It was hilarious!!
Anyway, I can’t recall if I ever traded this, so it may be uncirculated.
I hated a lot of things about L.A. when I lived there, but radio and live music scene was excellent.

Jello Biafra- Rodney on the Roq, KROQ Pasadena 1/10/82 xfer f/2nd gen cassette interview and demo

Today’s on this date is also early so you can plan your events later today accordingly.

This one is really cool- long interview with Jello and some LP tracks. I think some DK demos are also played- not sure if they made it onto a later reissue, but here they are from 1982.

One of the few good things about living in Whittier in the early to mid-90s was meeting a lot of people who had been in the music scene for a long time. I traded cassettes with some folks who had things like this. It would just come up in conversation at a concert “hey, I have this tape I got from a friend”. Or I would meet folks like Kevin Haynes, Todd Nakamine and Joe Hunter, who became good friends and are friends to this day.
