Page Three- Heartbreak Hotel, St. Louis Mo. 12/19/84 xfer from Beta master tape Enhanced

Another Page Three post from Robert Kuhlmann’s collection of beta tapes that I transferred a while back.
Here’s what Robert says about this show:
“I think the Christmas Show as a last minute fill in when one of the touring bands cancelled. That video brings back a lot of memories…Joe Williams, a dear friend and former Jet Lag editor was writing for the ST Post at the time. He loved Page Three and would often jump up to do vocals on Boys Dont Cry.”
Those old beta cameras had some nice microphones- sounds really good. Some parts of the stage were pretty dark, so I bumped up the brightness as much as I could without making Robert glow like a lightbulb.

Page Three- Heartbreak Hotel, St. Louis Mo 8/24/84 xfer from Band Beta Master Tape Enhanced

Page Three was a highly-anticipated pop ensemble when it debuted on St. Louis new wave scene in the spring of 1983. Formed by scene regulars Bob Kuhlmann and George Schneller out of the ashes of their beloved power-pop trio Dear John, Page Three combined 60’s pop-inspired sensibility with a stripped-down, hard- edged attack of then-new bands like Joy Division, New Order and Scars. The band also included ex-Ray Milland guitarist Randy Erickson and drummer Kevin Brueseke who kept time with numerous local scene pioneers such as The Cameros, Surgery, Oui-Oui Twins, and the Obvious.

George Schneller – (bass, vocals)
Bob Kuhlmann – (guitars, vocals))
Randy Erickson – (guitars)
Kevin Brueseke – (drums)

Here is a post from a new collection of tapes sent to me by Robert Kuhlmann. There were a bunch of OLD beta tapes in the box- some looked like there may be issues with transferring, but we were able to get them all off the tapes without major issues. Great 80’s alternative/new wave.
Thanks Robert for trusting me with the tapes, and allowing me to post these!

Page Three- Billie Goat Hill, St. Louis Mo 8/26/83 xfer from band beta master tape enhanced

Here is the last show that I am posting from Robert Kuhlmann’s collection of beta tapes. I wanted to thank Robert (and Greg Kessler) for their patience while I sourced a hi band beta machine that would play these tapes properly- It was a comedy of errors that had me buying way too many beta machines and fighting with Ebay sellers until I found my new best friend, Ron from Professional Video Engineering in Concord. I now have way too many working beta machines! The whole process took months.
Anyway, about the video. This one comes from a venue called Billie Goat Hill that was an old saloon that became a venue in the 70s and 80s. Here’s what Robert remembers from these shows: “we opened for the b-lovers from Champaign both nights. we had only done 5 shows as Page Three before that weekend.”
