Naked Raygun- Distillery, Sacramento Ca. 12/6/07 xfer from DV master with Soundboard Matrix Audio!

This was a memorable show. The Distillery is TINY and it was completely packed for this show. There was a scheduling problem- someone booked 4 opening bands and by the time NR got on stage, they had to cut the set short. Bummer. They said that this show felt like the old days when they played small clubs in chicago. Filmed with the Panasonic Pro AG-DVC30 camera. Soundboard by Jim McLain, audience recording & Matrix by Jim McLain(confirmed).

Naked Raygun- Elbo Room, San Francisco Ca. 12/4/07 Xfer from DV master w/DPA Audio!

I guess I never posted this one. This recording suffered from terrible distortion (due to an incorrectly wired external mic), but thanks to “Anonymous” stellar audio recording and Derek Purtell’s help with synching the audio to the video, we can finally share this. Recorded with a Panasonic AGDVC30, audio via DPA 4061’s.

Naked Raygun- Subterranean, Chicago IL 11/4/06 Riot Fest Reunion Warm-Up Show Holyy Lazarski Nahane

Bonus On This Date post! The Poison Idea show actually took place on 1/4/14, not 11/4/14.. so you get this instead. I probably should have picked this one in the first place.

This was a riot fest secret warm-up show for Naked Raygun’s return to the stage after a 9 year hiatus. They did one warmup show at Cobra Lounge in October, and then this. They were billed as Holyy Lazarski Nahane. You can tell that the crowd was pumped to see them- the crowd sing-along is INSANE. It’s a must listen just so you can hear the crowd, especially during Knock Me Down. Wow!

Naked Raygun- Cabaret Metro, Chicago Il 7/19/91 xfer from master tape/CDR Clone Complete Show Mott

Lots of great things to choose from for today’s On This Date in History. I picked this one because it has been a while since I posted anything Naked Raygun related, even though I have over 50 live shows of theirs and many of the lowest gen copies still out there. It also has a cover of Mott the Hoople’s All the Young Dudes somewhere in this show, which is a treat.
Image for the video was swiped from Naked Raygun’s instagram- that poster is in the rock and roll hall of fame.
I tried to rebalance this one since it needs more guitar to my ears and it just buried the vocals, so you get it as is. Enjoy!

Naked Raygun- Kennel Club, San Francisco 3/20/91 xfer from master tape enhanced w/ soundboard audio

I debated whether to do the enhance/audio/video synch on this one, but the degrain worked so well I figured what the hell. The reason I waffled was because of the soundboard tape- this is the strangest board tape I have ever heard. The mix is all over the place, and about halfway through the set, the guitar gets so loud that it bleeds over everything else. I cut the audio from the show into 4 pieces so I could rebalance the mix differently when the mix changed. There is about a 10min spot where side “A” of my board tape ended and the tape flip didn’t happen (from 51:00 to 60:00ish).
It sounds funny at times (especially in the 2nd half of the set, I really had to push the rebalance) but it was the best I could do. Huge thanks to Kingbean for synching all of the little pieces together.

Naked Raygun- 924 Gilman, Berkeley Ca. 3/17/91 xfer from 1st gen VHS w/Enhanced Master Soundboard

I had meant to get this ready when Pierre’s gofundme started (to draw more people to it) but I kept getting sidetracked. R.I.P. Pierre.
This was the second time I ever saw NR, and it was once again at Gilman. I did not bring my video camera since I thought Karen Bemis would not give permission… but she was not with them and the band was totally fine with it. I was lucky enough to see them a few days later at Kennel Club and got that one on video. I audio taped this one through the soundboard with one of my pro decks- either the Sony WMD6C or the Marantz PMD430…. and it was a great mix.

Lots of covers for the encore, including a Johnny Cash song

Naked Raygun- Mather Courtyard, Case Western Univ, Cleveland Oh 7/21/90 Soundboard FM Master-DAT

It’s time for a Patreon Voter’s Choice bonus post! The theme was “Pick a No List Digital Soundboard”. I used a random number generator to pick 5 things.. and then after I started the poll, I realized that these were ON the main list, not off list ones! Derp. So this coming week is the no list vote. Should be fun- I will add the link to Patreon in case anyone wants to see it.

After this show won the vote, I realized that a) it was a cassette master-digital(DAT then CDR) and b) it was already on youtube, but not nearly at this quality. So let’s proceed. I promise I’ll stop making mistakes someday.

Naked Raygun- AJZ, Bielefeld, West Germany 10/29/88 xfer f/soundboard cassette rebalanced Complete

It’s been a while since I posted anything from the mighty Naked Raygun, so this one seemed good for today’s On This Date in History… until I listened to it. Yikes, this mix had some issues. The vocals were a bit over saturated, there was no bass and the guitar was low. There is some high end phasing issue later in the set as well. I did what I could to fix it up.

If you want a better quality example from the Jettison tour, check out the one that Radley and I taped from 924 Gilman in May of 88 on this channel/website. This one isn’t that bad and it is the only recording I have ever seen from Germany of NR.

I had someone from the Naked Raygun: nrmy facebook group ask me to post this one. I warned them that it was terrible quality, but they wanted to hear it anyway. So, sorry about this one. This goes to show that I actually do have some quality control over here- I don’t post everything I digitize… unless someone REALLY wants it. 🙂
Oh, and it is incomplete.
