Mercyful Fate- Hard Rock Live, Wheatland Ca. 10/30/22 4k UHD Full Show King Diamond

This one hurts. This was such a great show, and I put a lot of effort into bringing my good audio gear in to get a decent (DPA 4061 mics) quality audio recording to match up to this. I get home to listen to the audio and it is distorted. The battery in the preamp was low. Damnit, I have been having terrible luck with audio lately. If anyone has a line on audio, let me know. Nothing through the network of usual suspects or on DIME.
Anyway, the audio on this is fairly clear but lacks punch/low end. I did my best filming, but there were a LOT of phones/hands/ etc in the air. So, if you are wondering why I am focusing on someone other than Hank Sherman when he is playing a lead, it’s because there was a hand, beer or phone in the way. Such is life.
Nice seeing so many old and new friends. I’ll try to list everyone I saw/hung out with.
PS: I have never seen so many happy middle aged dudes singing about satan, in my life.

Mercyful Fate- Roskilde Festival, Denmark 7/2/94 xfer from DAT clone Complete show

Finally, today’s on this date in history. I noticed this wasn’t online- only a shaky video with poor muffled audio. The taper brought a Sony ECM144 mic to tape- that mic doesn’t give you a whole lot of low end and you get some noise from the mic hitting a jacket zipper or something. Still not a bad recording and a full Roskilde set. I found it funny that MF played a 75 minute headlining set, then the announcer says “Blue Aeroplanes at 1pm tomorrow”. I guess that’s what happens when you play close to home- you headline and play 75min! I am sure it was a smaller stage, but still. Cool.

King Diamond-WRTN Midnight Metal interview, New York 4/26/86 Complete hour long w/Mercyful Fate Demo

Alright, since the Exodus Bonded by Blood 40th anniversary show happened last night, I figured that I would post a couple metal related things this weekend for On This Date in History. Oh, semi-pro tip for folks who bought the Exodus live stream- I noticed that they broadcast Exodus live last night, but if you go to the replay, there is about 15 minutes of Blind Illusion at the very start of the replay. I am screen capping it now (for my own personal use of course), but there is no Death Angel. I wonder why… Anyway, how about that tribute to Paul? Those audio clips of him were classic!

Here is a really interesting one. WRTN was a left of the dial FM station out of New Rochelle NY that existed from 1953-2006. They had an underground metal show on friday night/saturday morning at midnight each week. I am a sucker for these independent underground radio shows. So cool.
Anyway, it sounds like King Diamond actually came in studio with them and sat for an hour-long interview. Lots of Mercyful fate history is discussed. It’s a really fun listen to fans of the king.

This one was either heavily traded or the FM signal was not great because there was a lot of noise on the tape. I use Izotope Rx8’s Spectral Denoise to take the edge off without affecting the sound quality.

Rampage Radio Show- KUSF, San Francisco Ca. Early 80s xfer from 1st gen Audio Tape Anvil Chorus AIIZ

During lockdown, I have been trolling Ebay more often than usual and I saw this tape for auction. It was listed as “Metallica Demo”, but when I saw the tape, I knew exactly what it was… and I know Ron’s handwriting from trading tapes with him back in the 80s. I was able to snag it for kinda cheap to share here. This is the best quality recording I have heard from the old Rampage Radio shows.
Side note: You will hear Ian or Ron talk about The Sweet at one point- this video was blocked because of the Sweet content, so I had to edit it out.
