Matthew Sweet- El Dorado Saloon, Sacramento 4/18/97 audio xfer from DAT Soundboard Master

I loved Sweet’s music in the 90s, and his live shows were incredible. Here is an hour and 45 minute concert from El Dorado with covers by The Kinks and David Bowie. The mix is decent for an Eldo board. I tried to look up his band for this tour and came up empty. I don’t recall Richard Lloyd being on board.
By the way, Matthew Sweet is coming back to Sacramento this Saturday at Harlow’s. I know that there is about 20 things on the calendar for that night, but you can’t go wrong seeing Matthew Sweet play.
PS: Thanks to Danny Ensele for his concert archives website- I had to use that site to get the date, then dig into the “dresser of 2,000 DATs” to find the tape.

Audio Live Concert

Matthew Sweet- Tower Records, Chicago Il. 8/24/95 Live in-store Audio Only WXRT-FM xfer from master

After 8.5 hours straight of meetings today, I finally get a break.
I kinda blew my wad on the cool archival video stuff early this week, so you get audio for a few days. Man, I love Matthew Sweet. He always seems to get lumped into the “90s alternative” bucket of bands, but all I hear is a great songwriter. Killer power pop.
This is an in-store concert broadcast broadcast on WXRT in Chicago, who were probably the best station in the country for live broadcasts back then. I hope they are still relevant, and didn’t go the route of KROQ.

Audio Live Performance

Matthew Sweet- Backstage Tavern, Ballard Wa 9/29/93 xfer f/DAT FM Master Clone Complete Concert KXRX

Let’s do another one of these regional live FM broadcasts for today’s On This Date in History. This one sounds quite a bit better than the Son volt one the other day. The early 90s were such a great era for Matthew- this is the Altered Beast tour, so you get a lot of that and a lot from the classic Girlfriend album.
Complete 80 minute set- sounds great and the band is ripping! Enjoy.
Thanks KXRX FM !!

Audio Live Concert

Matthew Sweet- Greek Theater, Los Angeles Ca 8/27/92 DAT Audience Master Nakamichi CM300

We were too late to catch Matthew’s opening set on night 1 of the Indigo Girls’ 2 night run at The Greek, but I made sure to show up early (which meant leaving work/home SUPER early because of L.A. traffic) to catch his set. I was pretty lucky to catch a show from the Girlfriend tour, albeit an opening set.
