The Mallrats- 3 song demo 2002 Sacramento Power Pop Punk Mr. T Experience

Late collections post today- I got my 2nd Shingles vaccine and it is kicking my ass. I’m going to sleep as soon as this posts, haha.
So this is another installment of the “Locals Only” series, where we share out of print/demo CD’s from our local scene.
The way I came across this is wild- I saw a lady on our Buy Nothing group in Orangevale giving away some CD’s. Among them were some local bands so I asked her about them. Turns out that she had an entire binder full of locally released and demo CD’s that she bought at shows. So, thanks to Emily Cole Brown for letting me borrow these. Thanks for the treadmill too! I am a regular buy nothing “customer” of hers, haha. Nice to know that we have some culturally cool folks out here in OV.
Mallrats was Ted Angel (who joined MTX a couple years later.), Steele Strella and Adam Miller

The Cavemen- Demo Help needed! Lost Media? Sacramento?

Here’s another mystery tape, this time from Dal Basi’s collection. What you see in the photo is all I know about the tape. Most of Dal’s tapes are Sacramento/stockton/bay area based. Could it be the New Zealand Garage Thrash band? They did play Sac in 2019…. Nothing shazams and the Youtube algorithm doesn’t know either. Feedback requested.

This one is from Scott Capizzano’s collection, and that’s about all I know about it. Scotty, can you shed any light on this band? Who were the band members, year demo was recorded, where was the band from, etc.

Natalie Cortez and the Ultraviolets- Original Mixes Demo 7/99 xfer from band’s DAT master

Since the Walrus tape didn’t work out (mysteriously blocked by the evil youtube bots), here is another Natalie Cortez band archive demo. This one is 10 years later, with the Ultraviolets band. Note: the time stamps on the DAT do not match up exactly with this post, as I trimmed out the silent leader on the DAT.

Nocturne- Demo, Dallas Tx Industrial Rock Band 1999? Transfer from Master demo tape Triple X Records

A couple years ago, I was trolling Ebay back when I had more spare time and found this demo motherlode of Dallas bands and they were really cheap. There were 2 Nocturne demos in there- I recently sold this one on Ebay to a cool guy named Ryan who helped me ID song titles for the second one (coming soon!).

The band released a couple things locally and then were picked up by Triple X records who released a couple albums by the band

Las Pesadillas- Early Demo, Sacramento Ca. Late 90s/Early 2000’s xfer from band demo

Another Sacramento band demo from a ways back from Anonymous 2’s collection. Man, he has a ton of demos in those boxes.
Las Pesadillas is described as “Punk-gypsy-spaghetti-surf-rock since 1995” according to their bandcamp page. I think I figured out about half of the band members by comparing the first names on this demo vs. the band members on the early releases:
Noah Nelson: Guitar/Vocal
Steve Sullivan: Bass
Jason Cox: Drums
Eddy (?): Guitar
Damian Sol: Violin.
I could not find any of these songs on any of their releases from 2002-now.

Deathray- Demo Late 1990s xfer f/master or 1st gen audio cassette Cake Sacramento Alternative Indie

Wow, what a day. That was the hardest I have physically worked in a while. But you are still getting 2 posts today!

First one is from Anonymous 2’s collection. The design of this demo tape is very similar to another Deathray demo that I posted a year or so back from my collection, but this one has a completely different track list. Not sure if it was from the same session.

Guitarist Greg Brown was in Cake and Dana Gumbiner was in Little Guilt Shrine prior to Deathray.
