The Coverups- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 3/6/18 Multicam Canon HFG40 Rode VPS Green Day

So with the help of Todd Pritchard (who tipped me off that the show was happening), I was able to score a ticket to one of the Coverups’ shows. It was a lot of fun- almost 2 hours of great cover songs. Plus, Tre Cool gets up on stage for a Foxboro Hot Tubs song, and Jason Beebout gets up there for one.
This was filmed with my Canon HFG40 and Rode Video Pro Stereo mic (that’s the one I am moving around), 1 gopro hero5 silver and 1 gorpo hero5 black. I had just bought the black from the gopro official refurb store on ebay… and it was faulty. There are many glitches from that one angle due to that gopro. My good friend Agelos still made the edit work, but it took a lot more effort to make it happen. Thanks Agelos. The gopros’ batteries conk out about halfway through, and someone with a camera on a tripod got front and center.. so the ending is not so good.
Oh, one last thing. I usually get permission to film bands, but they showed up and went right on stage. If the band wants this pulled down, please message me. Thanks!

Corrupted Morals- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 1/17/18 Multicamera with Rode Audio Live East Bay Punk

This was the craziest show I have ever seen at Ivy Room. The stage area is tiny (about 15 feet across) and there was a full blown pit going. I thought I was far enough back to be safe, and I got NAILED. The impact was like a kidney punch, and it lifted me in the air, pushed me back a foot or two, and I landed with the camera still pointed at the stage. Ouch.

Barbara Manning- Ivy Room, Albany Ca 7/8/17 Multicam with Matrix Audio!

It had been a long time since Barbara has played with a band in this area, so it was a nice surprise when she played a couple of shows with a “one night band” in the bay area back in 2017. This was the second of those shows. Some of these angles are not perfect (sorry for cutting off your head Melanie) but I don’t think another multicam of Barbara exists, so good enough.

Surrogate Brains- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 1/2/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode Mic

I had not seen Surrogate Brains since 1988 in a tiny rehearsal studio, opening for the Accused. They were one of the most anticipated bands of The Lookouting for me, so when they added a show at Ivy Room, I had to go. The Ivy Room has a very short stage, so I had to boost my camera to about 11 feet high or so. That means no zoom/pans. Hope you still enjoy it!

The Invalids- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 1/2/17 Lookouting Punk Part 1 Canon HFG30 Rode mic

Here is The Invalids’ set from Ivy room. Great set, but I was so tired by the time they came on. I missed the history event yesterday as well, Being from the Sacramento suburbs is preventing me from going to all of the events. Well, that and life.

Surrogate Brains- Ivy Room, Albany Ca. 1/2/17 Audio Only Sony M10 & DPA4061 Mics

This was Surrogate Brains’ first performance in about 30 years. I think it was the best one. Gilman was a shorter set and they were 1 band in a 7 band bill.
I posted video of this show last year, but this is my audio recording done with my Sony M10 and DPA 4061 mics. It sounds a bit better than the video, and the bass is much fuller on this one.

Crimpshrine- Dave’s Garage, Albany Ca. 5/16/87 xfer from master VHS tape Enhanced East Bay Punk

Here is one from Chris Eng’s collection of tapes. This one had some lighting issues- I tried to brighten it up and fix contrast as much as I could.
The funny thing is that Jeff Ott’s new band (Dollar Store) is playing People’s Park in Berkeley right about now, unless they got tear gassed/rubber bulleted out of there. It was a surprise announcement- wish I could have made it there but I am 2 hours away… I had already planned to post this video today, the surprise show announcement was pure coincedence.

Isocracy- Dave’s Garage,Albany Ca 5/16/87 xfer master VHS tape Enhanced East Bay Punk Turn it Around

Another late post day. For those of us who traded tapes back in the 80s, we were excited and super appreciative to see Chris Eng’s videos of bands like Operation Ivy, Crimpshrine, and many others including these guys. I have always felt that Isocracy had probably the best song on the first bunch of Lookout 7″ released with Rodeo. My favorite releases were Op Ivy and Corrupted Morals, but that one song was so great.
This Dave’s Garage 5/16/87 show did not have the same quality as the earlier shows, but it is legendary in its own right- here’s Chris with an explanation: “Worst possible recording setup. Dave’s shitty camera that plugged into my shitty VHS VCR.”… but it exists at least. I did everything I could to brighten this up and fix exposure and contrast. This probably the earliest Isocracy video recorded. Thanks Chris!
