I wasn’t planning on posting this (ever) because it was a pretty tough weekend, but I was cleaning off the RAID and decided to do so to honor my friend Richard.
I booked a trip to Las Vegas to see the Punk Rock Museum and meet up with my friends Dave and Jack from the band. I was also looking forward to seeing my old friend Richard Brown- his parents used to run Arjay Rock in the 1980s/1990s and we have been friends ever since. I had not seen him in about 10 years, when he lived in Portland and I was on a business trip up there.
After I booked the trip, it was announced that my daughter was playing a all-city concert at a local high school on Jan 13.. I figured that I could still make this work since the tour was on Friday, my daughter’s performance was on Saturday, and AOD’s mini-concert in the garage at the PRM was Sunday. So I booked ANOTHER round trip ticket LAS-SMF-LAS so I could go see her performance on Saturday. I pulled it off with very little sleep and made it to her performance. After her show was all done, she ignored me- would not speak to me. Teenagers…
To add insult to injury, I discovered that schedules at PRM are not set in stone, and it kinda revolves around Fat Mike’s schedules or whims.. and they ended up playing on Saturday. I missed the performance. Mike had a busy schedule and moved the performance time to suit his needs. I wasn’t even going to come back, but I had a rental car parked in the airport parking garage, so I kinda had to..
I am glad I did head back, because I was able to spend a good part of Sunday with Richard and his daughter Jasmine. Richard had been sick with a skin cancer but was able to make it out to both the tour and the Sunday hang. Richard passed away in June so spending that day with him meant a lot. I hope his daughter is doing well- Richard and his daughter were very close. It makes me so sad every time I think about it.
You can see Richard in the video- I spotted him at 11:00 in the grey jacket, his daughter has the Descendents hat on.
Anyway, sorry to be such a downer, Dave and Jack do a nice tour guide job. Lots of inside info on the east coast bands including the misfits. This is 23 minutes of a TWO AND A HALF HOUR tour. That Dave guy can talk!
