Here’s another classic Old Ironsides show. I will try to get one more up tomorrow as well. Let’s hope the new owners keep the same community/locals vibe there, while bringing in cool bands like Slobberbone.
I think this was the last time that Slobberbone came to town. At this point, I can’t remember how this show came to be- I don’t recall being involved with this booking. Maybe Charles hooked them up, post Cap Garage.
You might be wondering why there is a photo of a Roland MX5 mixer as the video thumbnail. Well, before you could plug a USB stick into a soundboard and get a multitrack recording, we had this goofy contraption. We would take cables and plug them into the inserts of the board, and then I would take that signal and try to mix it live in the club, using headphones and a headphone amplifier. It was not easy- the board mix was changing constantly, and I would be trying to keep up with the changes on the mixer to keep things stable. As you can hear, this one slides around quite a bit at the beginning. The first song is hilarious with me trying to get a mix started- skip past if you want. It gets good about 10min in , and really good about 15min in.
I wish I had a picture of video of that setup.
