Zuzu’s Petals- Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco Ca. 11/9/94 Pre-FM Soundboard xfer from KALX Master

Happy Monday! Here is another one of those live shows where the soundboard mix was simulcast on KALX. I knew KALX did these from Gilman- I actually taped a Naked Raygun show off KALX while watching the show inside the club! I did not know (until receiving this box of tapes) that they branched out to other venues.
Here is Zuzu’s Petals from Minneapolis, playing at Bottom of the Hill. The band was Coleen Elwood, Laurie Lindeen, and Linda Pitmon. They had a couple of LP’s on Twin/Tone in the early 1990s. Linda went on to play with Golden Smog, Steve Wynn, The Baseball Project, Filthy Friends and many more.
Pretty cool to find this one in the box- thanks Rick!

Ween- La Luna, Portland Or 11/9/94 xfer from 8mm master tape enhanced Gene Dean

Here’s another one that Craig taped- this one turned out pretty good! Audio is not too bad, but if anyone has a lead on a better source, please let me know. LMA has nothing but I know this is a well documented band.

L7 and opener?- La Luna, Portland Or 11/8/94 xfer from 8mm Master Donita Sparks

Here is a very short one today from Craig Babb- there is a guy with a didgeridoo playing at the start for a couple minutes, then 1-2min of L7. Sorry, that was all that was on the tape.

Small Factory- Jabberjaw, Los Angeles Ca 11/8/94 xfer from DAT Audience Master Clone Indie Rock

Wow, I checked YT and there is pretty close to no Small Factory uploaded. Not sure if anyone cares but here you go. A nice sounding audience tape from the infamous Jabberjaw club in one of the worst parts of L.A. This place and Hell’s Gate in Hollywood made my rear end pucker whenever I went.

Junkyard Jam with The Outlaws 11/6/94 xfer f/ Unknown gen audio cassette

Thanks to dl_bass and Obaku Cubs for the help in identifying the correct venue/date for that C.O.C. show the other day. Much Appreciated.

This one is another mystery tape, from Scott Capizzano’s collection. Is this the band Junkyard, jamming with the band The Outlaws? Or are they jamming in a Junkyard? Who are the musicians playing? No idea. Help me out.

The Fastbacks- The Casbah, San Diego Ca. 11/5/94 xfer from 8mm Master w/DAT Audio LIVE

Man, I can’t believe that I have not posted this yet. I have been a big Fastbacks fan since the late 80s, so I drove from my home in Whittier to San Diego to see them at the Casbah. It was a great show, but the audio on the video is terrible. I have a DAT audience recording that’s way better than this. Hopefully one day we will be able to put them together.
UPDATE: Thanks to Derek Purtell, who answered my plea for an audio/video synch! Nice job, and the internet is awesome.

Sicko- The Fallout Shelter, Reno, NV 11/5/94

Man, this is great. We are really getting a lot of people contributing to the archive now. Kirk is now transferring Marty’s masters, I am doing Ken and Cory’s 8mm masters, and people are asking for some of my ancient audiotapes. Good times.

Here’s another one that Marty filmed from 1994. I am really appreciative of these ones, since I lived in L.A. at the time.

Green Day- Westwood One Interview, Torrance Ca 11/4/94 xfer from low gen audio cassette

This one has been a long time coming. Arica Pelino asked me about this tape so many times and I could not find it in her magic suitcase, until I moved it to make room for a NEW collection (to be announced tomorrow!). Finally! Sorry for the delay, Arica.
This tape is an odd one. It takes place shortly after the band’s legendary Woodstock 94 show and Lollapalooza tour as an opener. They are playing CSDH that night (I was there!) and that’s around where this happens. Arica says she thinks she taped this off the radio, but it sure sounds like a Pre-FM thing to me. The interviewer’s mic is off/distant. Wacky, jet-lagged chaotic interview.

Hellbillys- KALX Live in Studio, Berkeley Ca 11/4/94 xfer f/ master pre-fm cassette Christ on Parade

It has been way too long since I have shared something from Rick Sylvain’s KALX trove of tapes and today seemed like a good day for it.
The Hellbillys were a psychobilly bands from the bay area. They all used stage names so I can’t tell who the members were, but I do know that Barrie Evans (Christ on Parade’s vocalist during the “Sounds of Nature” era) was the vocalist.
