Big Star- House of Blues,Hollywood Ca 11/1/94 9pm Show xfer DAT Master Alex Chilton Posies Power Pop

I actually taped today’s On This Date in History. I had a ticket to the 9pm show of Big Star at House of Blues and they put on a good show. The typical set at the time. Then, at the end of the set, they announce that they didn’t sell many tickets to the midnight show, so we were welcome to stick around and see that show as well. I called my wife from outside the venue on a pay phone and let her know that I was going to be LATE. Super late! Work was not fun the next day, after about 3 or 4 hours sleep.

These were done with the coresound mics which pick up a ton of bass- even with the “bass rolloff” version of the mics. I tried to EQ as much bass out of the mix while boosting the highs and mids, then popped it into Izotope to bring up the guitar and vocals. Still bassy.

Green Day- Live 105 Interview from Lollapalooza November 1994 xfer from master audio cassette

Hey everyone. I am not going to give any hot takes about last night, but I am here for anyone who needs help or support. Please reach out if you need someone to talk to or someone who can help connect you with resources. We will persevere with love, empathy and community. I love the groups that I am part of- the sac music scene, sac music archive friends, commenters and helpers, and so many more. None of the sense of community changes- in fact, it would be good to amplify it a bit now. Time to make sure we are here for each other.

Back to regular programming- Here’s a short but funny interview from Arica Pelino’s suitcase of tapes. Nothing like talking about smokin’ cr*ck on the radio.

Nar- Minot, ND. November 1994 xfer from band 8mm master Enhanced Sacramento Punk

Here’s the last installment from Ed Carroll’s bag of NAR tour tapes. Thanks to Ed and Scott for trusting me with them. I had never heard of a band playing this city so I had to look it up. It’s the 4th largest city in ND and that’s about it. Scott told me that punk kids who corresponded with them would ask them to play their town, and they would! Amazing.

It’s another NAR weekend! There will be at least 1 more NAR weekend. It’s like heavy metal parking lot weekend, but cooler.
I hope everyone is having fun at Record Store Day- I sat this one out. Way too much stuff over here. I hope everyone gets what they wanted. So Dal (phono Select) and Steve (Audio Nerd), I’m not cheating on you, just abstaining this year.

OK, video Friday/Sat/Sun.
The NAR November 94 tour marches forward- there are 4 or 5 shows to post from this run, here is #2. Huge thanks to Ed Carroll for loaning the tapes and helping to ID the locations. This one has not one cover penned by Tom Hutchison, but TWO: Sleep til Noon (Captain 9s) and Rumble in the Housing Project (Knockoffs). These guys know the good songs to cover, for sure.

NAR- Pink Flamingo, Austin Tx Nov 1994 xfer from 8mm master videotape enhanced Sacramento Very Small

I have a couple very short video clips that have been sitting here for a bit, so I figured that I would do a short one and a full set today. That’s right 2 for the price of 1!
The first one comes from Ed Carroll’s archive of killer stuff- we have a lot of fun concerts coming up for you- the first one is a short clip from Austin. Yes, I did pick that thumbnail on purpose because it is hilarious. This is only 3min long for some reason.
