BONUS post! That’s right, this isn’t even the last post of the day. Huge thanks to Adam Dristle for telling me what to do. This was another case of not remembering what I had in the collection. This was KROQ’s first year doing this and it was all acoustic. No “almost” yet.
The tape sounds pretty nice for an audience recording… except for that low end rumble. Pretty bold of Jon and Ken to start the set with an unreleased track, but I am glad they did. Great version. It sounds like the band was already getting some KROQ airplay (Golden Blunders) even though the Dear 23 album was just released at the time. Cool.

from Ken Stringfellow: “This was a great show… the cap to our first full US tour. Just a few days before we’d gone off the road in Iowa in black ice, front first into a snow bank. Twisted the bumper of the van and totaled the UHaul. Got back on the road, and finished the full band tour in Denver. Jon & I flew to LA and spent the next week in the sun, going to the beach, doing promo… the rest of the band unfortunately got as far as Wyoming, where -40F temps froze the oil in the van and the band and crew found themselves stuck in a crummy motel for 3-4 days til temps warmed up. Oops. Thus the great singers vs band gap widened… often a problem”
