Thin White Rope- Vis Club, San Francisco Ca 10/24/86 xfer from unknown gen audiotape soundboard

I hope everyone is staying safe and well during this surreal time.

Since I am one handed now. I used my remaining good one to pull one of my cassette trays off the top of the shelves here. I found all kinds of GOOD stuff. Here is an old soundboard recording of TWR from the Vis in 1986. I just learned today that The Vis was the same building as the Kennel Club in the late 80s/90s, and is now The Independent.

This one sounds pretty damned good. I was able to use Izotope to boost the bass (as much as possible) and boost 1 guitar. I got lucky with the guitar- the program doesn’t always isolate the guitar… both guitars are not perfectly balanced, but there wasn’t much I could do about it.

Show starts with a 1 song soundcheck, then the show.

One last thing- I have around 90 TWR listings on the audio list on the sacramentomusicarchive.com website. I’ll need to get to them all someday

Tragic Mulatto- Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco Ca 10/24/86 xfer from 1st gen soundboard cassette

This one comes from Radley Hirsch- he gave a copy of his master soundboard tape to Anonymous back in the late 80s. Pretty nice mix, so I didn’t attempt a rebalance.
For the uninitiated, Tragic Mulatto were an art punk band that released a few things on Alternative Tentacles back in the 80s.

Government Issue- Alternative, Lubeck, West Germany 10/14/86 xfer f/2nd gen VHS tape G.I. John Stabb

It’s finally time for the Patreon Voter’s Choice! Supporters voted this in last week. They also voted for one of my masters the week before that is still going to happen- it will tape some work.
I traded with a guy in Columbus who got a ton of punk shows from the person who taped them- mostly from Neely B’s from Columbus. But the filmer also went on a european tour with Government Issue and filmed a ton of shows. This is 1 of about 6 that I have. I had more than 10 from that tour at one point but I lost some in the great purge of 2008. Ugh, big regret.

Richard Thompson- Jake’s, Bloomington In 10/13/86 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Fairport Convention

It’s a late one today! This is another one from Tony Philputt’s collection via Phil Go. It’s 71 minutes of a RT show from 1986. This one sounds pretty decent for an audience camcorder job.

Agression-The Farm, San Francisco Ca 10/11/86 xfer f/Master soundboard cassette Oxnard Nardcore punk

Since you got video yesterday, it’s audio today. Here’s another one from James R Edmonds’ last shipment of tapes- his tape of Agression from the Farm, taped by him off the soundboard. That’s what “master” means if anyone was unclear. “Master”=the original tape. “1st gen”=1 copy off the master. etc. OK, class is over.
The original mix is lacking in guitars, so I bumped them up a bit in Izotope Rx8. Hmm, maybe I should have brought that snare up a bit. Still sounds good.

7 Seconds- The Farm, San Francisco Ca 10/11/86 xfer from master soundboard cassette rebalanced punk

Here’s an early one for you today. The tape had the date as 4/13/87 and I could not find anything about this show (w/Agression) on that date. I then referenced James’ list and the actual date seems to be 10/11/86, and confirmed that this is one of James’ master tapes. There is a flyer for a show w/Agression for that date, so I am running with it.
Drums were a little light in the mix, so I bumped them up slightly in Izotope.

Just Born- Graystone Hall, Detroit Mi. 10/10/86 xfer f/Russ Gibb beta master Punk R.I.P. Tony Romeo

News came out today of Tony Romeo’s passing. Tony was in a bunch of bands including Easy Action, Trash Bats and this band. Just Born released a 7″ in 1986 and a cassette EP in 1995.

Unfortunately, the audio is not too good on this one. There is a low hum through most of the show, but not all of it. I tried to de-hum the audio in Izotope and it killed all the low end. I just kept the audio as-is. Sorry about that. Not much bass either way.

It looks like I might have 2 different angles of this show. If anyone has skill with video time/frame alignment, please reach out. We might be able to edit together a multicamera video.
