This is another of Dave Carness’ early master tapes and now i am REALLY confused. Dave has the tape labeled “Black Flag live 8-27-85” but the Black Flag portion of the show is the same as a well-circulated tape that was said to be from Club Can’t Tell on 8/26/85. Dave’s is better quality and has a more complete beginning. Dave’s tape has a 10 minute opening set by the Dicks (posted last month), who opened a Black Flag show in Sacramento at the Crest Theatre on 5/11/85. The sound of the tape sounds more like Crest vs. CCT to me. Club Can’t tell had somewhat poor acoustics and the vocals were always up front in the mix. They would usually bring a PA in for Crest shows so it varied by sound company. So who knows which date is the right one for this show AND the one circulated for years. Due to The Dicks being on Dave’s tape plus the way it sounds, I am inclined to go with 5/11/85.
