Whiskeytown- Mountain Stage, Charleston WV 3/1/98 xfer f/DAT Clone FM Broadcast Ryan Adams Americana

I had planned to post something else for This day in History, but this one happened to be right after the Superchunk show on the same DAT- how convenient!
Mountain Stage is a really great program that is still going today- broadcasting a wide range of country, folk, americana, and even some rock acts. Most bands would play a 20-30min set and join the other guests for a song at the end. I sure hope all these cuts to public services won’t affect their operation.
I received this from Marcus Winfree, but I don’t think he taped it.

Janis Ian- Mountain Stage, Charleston WV 1/24/98 xfer from DAT Clone of FM Broadcast Live Complete

For today’s “On The Day” post, I pulled out an artist who I would enjoy with my mom. My mom also liked to rock- her favorote band before she passed was Aerosmith. Today would have been her 74th birthday. Happy birthday mom! I owe much of my exquisite(lol) music taste to her- she got me into all the cool 70s bands. I remember listening to the Raspberries on the radio in the orange trans am back then… you can’t get much more 70s than that.
Anyway, here is a nice quality Janis Ian performance. I went to see her at McCabes in the early 90s and was blown away at her performance. If you have only heard “at seventeen”, I encourage you to dig deeper- she has so many great songs.

Blue Mountain- Live on NPR’s Mountain Stage Radio Show, W. Virginia 9/20/96 xfer f/cassette master

Here is a quick and early one for today’s On This Date in History. Most Mountain Stage recordings sound perfect, but Blue Mountain had a reputation for playing loud and the FM mix seems to suffer from it. After I got this one completely done, I noticed that I had another copy odf this on my list- a DAT clone. Whoops!
Lineage: Cassette Master-DAT-WAV.
