D.R.I.- Ventura Theater, Ventura Ca 1/16/11 xfer from MiniDV Master w/Interview R.I.P. Josh Parten

I met Josh Parten back in 2014 when I filmed his band (Mass Terror), opening for English Dogs at Gilman. He used to film shows way back so we became fast friends. It was a shock to hear of his passing. He sent me a box of about 30 DV master tapes in 2015 which I digitized for him. I just looked this one up and it doesn’t look like he posted it. I will add Josh to the Collections rotation and post all of the videos he sent me. He actually contacted me later and we talked about doing more of his tapes but it never happened.
This one includes Josh interviewing 2 members including Harald O.

It’s a LATE video collections post tonight. This one is from Josh Parten’s collection. I picked it because there was an interview at the end and I was hoping that Josh was on camera, but no luck. I think I hear him talking toward the end of the interview. RIP Josh

The Dickies- Ventura Theater, Ventura Ca 1/9/99 xfer f/DAT Clone Soundboard Rebalanced Complete Show

Today’s On This Date in History was an interesting project. The board mix on this one moves around a bunch which usually means that a rebalance in Izotope won’t work well, but it turned out alright. The drums are very up front during the first song and then they dropped out of the mix at about the 6 min mark, so I pushed it as much as I could without destroying the mix. Same with the guitars- I pushed it to where they almost drown out Leonard at the high points but are still audible (but back in the mix) at the low point.

I also have some suspicions about the origin. This was traded to me as a DAT clone and there is no tape hiss, so I think that’s true.. but there is a cut at 41 minutes that would make sense for a cassette tape flip. I have lined into the output of a tape deck with my DAT and had the same thing happen, so I am going with DAT, as advertised.

Fun show. Leonard doesn’t seem too excited about the clientele at the show, calling someone a fat f*ck at some point(s).

Camper Van Beethoven- Ventura Theater, Ventura Ca 12/8/89 xfer f/1st gen VHS tape Complete Full Show

Today’s On This Date was filmed by the same guy who did the Janes Addiction/Marys Danish UCSB show, I think. I think I recall begging him to go to this and video, and then I got it in trade back in 1990. It’s a bit over exposed and it was shot handheld from the back of the venue, so it is a bit shaky as well. Still a cool, rare video w/Morgan. There aren’t many of them out there.
