The Smugglers- The Lookouting, 924 Gilman Berkeley 1/7/17 Part 1 Canon HFG30

WOW. I had heard stories about The Smugglers’ greatness live, but they exceeded all expectations. At this point of the fest, my 49 year old body had filmed a shitload of bands and was tired as hell. Then The Smugglers came on and I forgot about it all and rocked out. A scorching set. I was lame in the 90s and missed them, and I am so glad that I got to see them once at least. Surprise of the fest for me.

The Smugglers- Concert Cafe, Green Bay Wi 9/17/96 xfer from master VHS tape enhanced

Here’s one from Jason Ross’ stack of VHS masters that did not seem to be online when I checked the other day. They must have played LOUD as most of Jason’s videos (even Guitar Wolf) sounded pretty good, but this one has some distortion. Picture quality is excellent.
If you haven’t read Grant Lawrence’s autobiography of the band called dirty windshields, you need to check it out. Very entertaining.

I pulled this DVD out for today’s On This Date in history and discovered that there are 2 sets from this night on the same disc. So I guess it’s an inadvertent 2 for Tuesday!

This looks like the Byrne brothers’ work but I am not sure. Looks and sounds pretty good. Steady camera work. Well done!
